Lot of us were expecting major performance improvements like 30FPS in HE mode, Pre-capture in Raw etc. but looking at this update, i am of the opinion that Nikon will reserve all the further performance improvements for the upcoming models like Z9H or Z9II/S….Will be surprised if we see any more major updates to Z9/8.

I have already used it, assigned to a button and it cycles with no issues.

I was gently disappointed with this update, there are loads of goodies here but I have been actively waiting for Raw Pre-capture and and the new Cycle AF mode seen on the Z8. Although not particularly mentioned by commentators so far I see that Cycle AF mode is actually there so that is a positive. Perhaps the Raw Pre-capture will eventually find us too.

generally speaking i wouldn't be surprised, but i kind of expect pixel shift unless it isn't possible for some reason

It will take some effort to check what else has been added in new commands to these Custom menus. Not only is Subject Detection mode missing, but so is a Metering mode eg Spot as we can set in the D850 (and Z7) and many other Nikon ILCs
AF was tweaked to detect smaller in the frame subjects, any real world updates on this? Did they change the behavior of any other AF modes?

Both cameras updated with no issues, although the one Z9 required 2 updates to add the GPS upgrade after the full camera firmware was installed. A single run on the other camera updated the Z9 to v5.00 and GPS to v0.17
I am not disappointed with this update at all, I am grateful that Nikon keeps giving us a lot of good update for free. There is big difference with the Z8 and the Z9 between the moment I bought them and whete we are today. And I think we should be very happy that Nikon keeps updating specially the Z9, which is now more than two years old. with All the update we have got in the last two years, it is like getting a new camera without paying a penny for it. Let is celebrate for one time what we have today and be happy.

I never understand this point of discussion on numbers. What you see as minor is huge for another.
I’m not complaining, Just explaining.
Disappointed. This update is what I would expect on a point-and-shoot camera.

It may have more underlying code change that we don’t see which could be reason for a version change. It is difficult to say why it was a full version rather than a point.
No kidding. Thankfully, much of this update is already written for the Z8, I just have to make a few adjustments to those sections and then I'm only left with the actual Z9 only stuff. I tell ya, a guy could go broke doing free updates...
