Woohoo, well, almost, expected delivery Dec 1 from B&H.

I was asking a couple days back about 200-500 vs. 500pf and got some really great sage advice. After weighing the options I started thinking over my lens selections.

I have the telephoto range well covered with the 200-500 and the Sigma 100-400.
I have the super wide covered with a 11-20 Tokina (not the world's best lens but good enough for what I do with super wide).
I have macro covered with the Nikkor Micro 105mm F2.8 (stellar lens by the way).
The only lens I have that covers the middle range is a Tamron 18-400. Not a bad lens considering what it is but not in the same league as the other lenses I have.

So, what did I do? I ordered the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR
With the $500 off sale going on right now, I didn't see how I could lose. It has the reputation of being a great lens and if/when I ever move to mirrorless, with the sale going on, I can sell it and not lose my shirt.

So, in a week it will be New Lens Day for Jeff!!!!

Sounds like you made a great choice. I have the F mount version and it's wonderful. The S version is said to be even better!

UPDATE: I can't read... I saw the "S" and assumed... I bought the same lens on sale, too and I think you'll like it a lot. Happy Thanksgiving!

scared me there for a moment, I had to go back and double check my order.

The one I got is the F mount. I don't have a Z mount camera just yet.

If you would’ve accidentally got a Z mount the only sensible thing to do would have been a Z9 preorder. Hehehe

I have the Tamron version and it’s a great lens capable of astro
I like the way you think. I told my wife what you said. She mumbled something about the world not being a big enough place to hide...

Hmm, you have a spare couch at your place? I won't eat much and I'll promise not to drink the last beer in the fridge. :)

Congrats on the new Lens. You’ll love it for Landscapes, Portraits, IMO.... If and when you switch to Mirrorless that 24-70 f2.8 will perform very well on a Nikon Mirrorless. I use my 24-70 2.8 G on my Z7ii often.

Congratulations, looks like you make a great choice and got a great deal! I have the prior version and thought about trading in for the VR version when Nikon was offering a similar rebate last year but didn't do it. I'm sure this will serve you well and continue to do so on the FTZ down the road when you're shooting with a Z. Enjoy it!

... I won't eat much and I'll promise not to drink the last beer in the fridge. :)

Send me your address in a PM, and I'll send you the last beer in my fridge. It's only about five or six years old, so it should be good, right? ;)

PS, Also include proof that you are of legal age to consume alcohol in the PM.

It's here. Haven't taken any photos with it yet.

I love new lens day! (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)....Have fun with it brother, it's an awesome piece of glass.

First 2 photos with the new lens. I may see a touch of back focus in several series of photos but will use it in the field for a few days before going down the fine tune rabbit hole. So far, I am well pleased with the lens. I did some portraits of my wife and I liked the way they turned out (of course I am forbidden from posting them, like a lot of women, she thinks she looks horrible where I think she looked great. The pup is my son's dog Lila who doesn't care if I post her picture or not as long as I give her at rest for allowing me to take her photo.
70mm F2.8 1/3200 sec ISO 100. I wanted to see what it was like wide open. This one is cropped in on her face. I was trying to hold focus on her left eye (on a moving dog that was more interested in the camera I had in my hands than having her photo taken)

Just a stupid shot at 24mm as I was shooting photos of the dog. I will get the lens out in the field over the coming days. so far I think it is a keeper. Just want to test it out well during the 30 day return period. I can always exchange it for another but I don't think I'll be doing that. The stop sign was the focus point (well as much as it can be at 24mm but let's say somewhere in the vicinity of the stop sign).

this one is a lot sharper at full resolution. Downsizing for forum under 1mb size really lost some of the clarity.

Your dog looks none too happy about your new lens! I suspect he's thinking, "let's play catch, instead of you monkeying around with that noisy black thing. Humans are so meh!"

P.S. great lens - a real workhorse. I've loved using mine.

haha, you're probably not too far from being right. Either wanting to play or wanting me to give her a treat.
