My Z9 is setup and ready to go :)

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

My Z9 arrived and I have it all set and ready to go. Feels good in the hand and the build quality seems excellent. Love the flip-both-ways LCD screen , the feel of the buttons, and just the overall handling of the camera. Most of it is pretty familiar, but there are a few new things that I'll be adding to my Mirrorless AF book in the next update. I think this one is going to be really fun to shoot. I was playing with the AF with my cats and eye detection latches on really well - can't wait to try it on a more challenging subject.
Have my Z9 in hand and, since it’s my first mirrorless, am looking forward to your update on how you have yours set up.

How quickly will you have some basic settings up for the Z9 for those of us that have not shot mirrorless but now have Z9s!

Ordered mine on October 28th at noon. Didn't get it yet. Amazon is saying January 22nd. UGH! Hopefully I'll get it before that or from the other source I also ordered from. Hoping it will be quick with the 500mm pf and FTZ II. I've heard mixed reactions with that combo.

Well, you have a target delivery date. I hope it is accurate for you!

Hey Steve, how does the Z9 compare size wise next to a gripped A1? I’ve seen a few pictures of one next to an ungripped A1 which wasn’t very helpful :)
They are roughly the same height, but the Z9 is wider from left to right. This gives you more room between the grip and the lens with the Z9. One major shortcoming with the a1 is that the space between the grip and the lens is a little tight. I know people who can't use the a1 because they have to cram their fingers tight between the grip and the lens barrel.
Thickness-wise, the Z9 also seems a little thicker than the a1, but not by much.

Not sure - I am planning a full guide for it and probably a quick YT setup video. However, I kinda want the PDF done before the video since I can use the video to help sell the PDF. Right now, getting the Z9 revised and the guides done - as well as updating my mirrorless AF book, are at the top of the list, right behind the a1 setup guide that's in progress. I'll probably be doing a little of everything for a bit.

Thank you.

So what are your settings? Where is the review? We are not too too demanding - are we??? :ROFLMAO:

Yes that is important. You need to keep the $ flowing to buy more gear. On a serious note, would appreciate any tidbits you would be willing to reveal until your PDF is done. Or you could do something really out of the box, sell the PDF, sight unseen, and release it chapter by chapter with the understanding you are sending out working version.

And Nikon Downloads finally has the Z9 PDF manual...🦘

Steve. Why don't you send out a prebook offer for A1 & A9 set up guide.I will prebook it for A1

Hopefully not :)

My reviews usually take a few months :) I'm going to try to get this one out as fast as I can, but there's still no shortcutting field time.
Hopefully you’ll have done it by the time I get mine!
I’m in the UK and don’t think anyone have had there’s yet!
At least when I get mine I will have learnt so much by reading the reviews 🤣

Totally agree, Im in the same boat, it could take months before I get my hands on one but should be pretty informed by then, hopefully 🤞🤞.

I never do partials - WAY too much stress. I'd get messages every day asking when the next chapter was coming, especially if I had something come up and was delayed at all. As it is, I get daily requests for a Z9 review and setup guide, as well as requests to update the AF book. If I were to sell an incomplete item, I'd spend all my time answering e-mails about when the next part was coming instead of working on the guide, complete with a reminder that they had already paid for it :)

AlsoI do understand how anxious people are and I will do my best to get things done as quickly as possible. However, I also won't shortcut things. I think the reason people like what I do is because I don't base everything off of a couple days at a local park. I really test and try and my ideas in the field and you only hear about them once I have a solid, field-tested setup ready.

Hold fast, the quality and thoughtfulness of your material is why you stand out! And if people are so anxious, sell them a one hour zoom coaching one on one for $150 😊

Steve.I am in no hurry (My A1 is already set up since 2 months (& i am now only looking for nuances) & been through many safaris & birding sessions ) & was just suggesting a marketing technique to foresee demand & assuring of my purchase(since i have bought all your e books except mirrorless)

Thanks for sharing you POV. I guess my idea was not very good (or to be more blunt, rather poor)

FWIW, I have thought about it before - multiple times in fact. They call it the "drip" method for releasing a product - basically you "drip" put chapters as you go. I think once upon a time I could have done it, but now there's just too much demand.

That is good to hear. I have the Sigma 500/4, but it has AF issues on the D500, it stutters in AF-C on nearing subjects, but otherwise AF is fine, fast and precise. I am not really sure where to go with it from here, but if it works good on the Z9, then that may be worth a try, although I will have to do some weightlifting to be able to handhold that combo.
Any thought on IQ with this combo yet?
Ciao Chris I'd be happy to load a couple of raw files if that helps.
I had the d5 once, and I feel to say that the lens is fast as with it. I'm not very happy of the quality of these new sensors, I tried Sony r74 , canor r5, and now Z9 in my hands. The files quality of the d5 / d850 / z6-7ii are in another league

Hi Simone,
Very encouraging with regards to the Sigma 500, because apparently it did not do so well with the Z7II. I still use it on the D500, but in preparation for the coming 800PF want to migrate to mirrorless.
Someone shared some images from the Sigma 500+ Z6II combo, and these looked very good, so I am considering a Z6II. But since I also have the 500PF, a Z9 would have higher performance and useability, and reach is a bit of a concern with the Z6II.

If you could share some raw files that would be great!

Good Morning I received my Z9 last week and went out shooting yesterday with the 500PF and the original FTZ adopter. It worked perfectly. Very fast and sharp! You will love it. See my Snowy Owl photo that I posted yesterday.
