KEEPING THE D850 Unquestionably.

Its the best DSLR ever made by Nikon, its a brilliant second camera, a great travel camera, if i don't want to walk around the back streets of the Bronc's doing street photography with a Z9................LOL
Plus i have a lot of Shutter counts on it so selling it is just not worth it.
It’s almost 5 years in production and is still the best DSLR in production today.

Yes i looked at these recently and they seem excellent and much more realistically priced compared to Pro Grade that i already have, i would have got these instead, i don't think they were on Nikon's recommended list........at the time.

I have the CF B Pro Grade Cobolt 325 gig twin pack, ie: one for each slot, and so far i haven't an issue what so ever.
I could have gotten smaller size cards but thought hey if I decide to venture into some time laps or outright video at any time its a perfect fit and capacity.........

I also have the ability to use the card on the D850/D6 etc etc or future drill downs of the Z9 like the Z8 ? possibly going to be 60 plus pixels ?, or any other camera that the card fits............

For land scapes i can use what i have or any CF B type card at a much smaller capacity, i was actually considering using say a couple of 64 gig Pro Grade Gold.....they are a far less outllay at least the brands can work in any compatible camera as well, just not at 20 fps.

The new Z9 Nikon firmware update to 15 seconds at 20 fps will suite my Pro Grade Cobolt 325 g cards perfectly, for the life of me i yet cant ever see a need to hold a shutter down for 15 seconds.

The future Z9 firmware update coming, cant recall exactly, something to do with the 30 seconds and or 8 k video will suite the 320 gig Cobolt as well....so in hind sight the selection was a bit of future proofing.

I need time still with the Z9, every time i use it I go that one step further forward and like all Nikon's i have found evolution not revolution serves me best.

They weren’t released until sometime after the Z9 started to ship so wouldn’t have been on the initial compatibility list. I haven’t checked the compatibility list, but Angelbird acknowledged compatibility issues with previous cards and stated they were releasing new cards that resolved them which the 160GB SX is one of. I used one in my Z7ii for a while to try it before my Z9 showed up and so far, they seem to be similar to perform well. I like the price for the performance and likely won’t need larger sizes for my use.

DON'T TRY TO KEEP UP, Love what you have and if that's the D850 even better

Absolutely the D850 is the best all round DSLR, i feel it will be very much sort after in the used market by people not wanting to invest in expensive new gear, frankly i am a hybrid version of those very same people. Yes i have a Z9 and so far love it..........but I will not invest in mirror less further till i see how it will tangibly improve my photography not my emotions.

If you have a D850 all ready its pointless having a Z7 II as far as image quality is concerned, only my opinion.

If you don't have a D850 and are not doing sports action of any kind then yes the Z7II is smaller lighter.

As I have mentioned to some club member's who many are feeling they are being left behind in this technology race or revolution because they say they cant afford to keep up...............I say Don't try and keep up, love what you have and what you do, Look, a photo should be a photo not a documentary shot, or a record shot unless its your intention to be so, you can use anything for that matter..

A Photo ............It needs to tell a story, communicate a message, evoke an emotion, be technically usable or reasonably sound, and have a wow factor.
Note if, a photo is captured or composed in a strong compositional manner with a strong message it often over rules the lack of technical perfection.

A photo with out content is not a photo.

There is so much Brilliant DSLR gear becoming available on the used market, even lots of f4 mirror less lenses, and even some mirror less bodies.

If you look at some of the International wild life completions, spectacular shots breathtaking shots from all sorts of locations and people.

Winners were even using D4 D300 14-24, 28-300, 24-70, 24 120, D500, D700, D7100, D5 d6 1dx and the list is just of the older gear and mixed gear budget level included.

I wouldn't be getting disillusioned, worried, or pressured.

Invest in your self, you will get greater satisfaction as you create 80-90% of the result.

Do you think the shots will all look the same from these people, these photographers where all at 9 o'clock on the dial of the arena, so many had the latest expensive gear, they never moved all day, are they photographers or record shot takers ?

I was at 6 o'clock on the dial with a 180 degree view of the subjects coming out at 12 o'clock, plus i moved around the ring as needed keeping the light behind my back, they were half the time shooting into the sun or backs of heads.

More money then sense was my take away.

Only an example.

A photo with out content is not a photo (I agree), looks like the group would have been better off with cell phones. Looks like they were taking images, not photos. And I agree with you about the D850.

I use a (super sharp)16mm 2.8 D fish eye which i love, i use it for street scape landscapes milky way etc it has a 180 degree field of view, you can use 3 different drop in filters that come with the lens, i cant use this lens on the Z9 as i cant focus it manually, so i am defiantly keeping the D850, i also have some other lenses like the 200 F4 D macro.
My Ziess lenses work OK on the Z9.

Just got an Angelbird 160GB SX—indistinguishable in performance compared to my Delkin Black card. 85-90 continuous shots in Lossless Compressed, essentially limitless in HE*.

NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S

$22,999 AUD What a great price awesome deal, Hey,

And Yes i have ordered 2, 1 for the Z9, the other for a spare in case i need it on another body like the Z7II.

JPEG test snaps on some locals using the Z9 on the 200-500, at 500mm, 20 fps, largely cropped.
These are not winning shots simply casual JPEGS shots to work through the Z9, the 200-500 works brilliantly as usual.
I do notice the original JPEG looks a little less nice when dropped into Adobe for resizing down for this forum.
The Z9 seems to be very much on par with the Z7II or D850 files.

Another test shot then cropped in hard, Z9 200-500 JPEG snap test shot at 500mm......again similar to the Z7II and D850 files.

I haven't seen much difference between the 200-500 and the 500pf in terms of sharpness in the field with good light, while there seems to be a little difference in the focusing response.

These are not competitive shots but just to see how the Z9 works with the 200-500 in JPEG fine.

I did a 3D tracking test later to learn how to to use the tracking feature, I used the small focal point and the tracking stuck like glue, i was impressed, but have a long way to go still.

NEW Canon EOS R5 C Mirrorless Cinema Camera

And they say still photography as we know it is not becoming obsolete.................as it will all come from Video in the very near future..........

2022 will be an interesting year especially in early 2023 if things stay on schedule.

Not for me thank you............

Hello Everyone,

I just got my Z9 yesterday. While being able to open the raw files in Photoshop/Lightroom, image quality and dynamic range are not up to my satisfaction. Does anyone know about the support level of Adobe for Z9, is it already there or full support is going to come in future. Even on NX studio, I cant convert them to DNG. My usual workflow is to route it through DXO Pure Raw and there's also no luck as of now. How's the experience of others on this?

Also eagerly waiting for Steve's videos on Z9.

I cant help with RAW images, i have noticed that the image files are brilliant in JPEG Fine out of the Z9, but when i drop an image into Adobe Photoshop even as a JPEG fine to just
resize the image for emailing i find the file losses a little clarity or magic.............this is NOT the fault of the Z9, i feel its Adobe that's not on point or not yet anyway.

I'm also noticing some odd behaviour in LR. As far as I know Z9 support was added awhile back and only claimed to be "preliminary". I actually have access to the Prerelease program for LR so I'm way ahead of the regular release and I can't recall any notes in the release notes that said full Z9 support yet....although I may have missed it as I get new releases fairly regularly and often don't check the release notes.

The jpeg previews I see in LR before entering Develop module are looking much nicer than what LR is pulling off. I find that my normal sharpening and NR defaults that I've been using for every camera for years are not working well on the Z9 but I don't know why that is?? Maybe just because I've had to shoot very high ISO during my first 3 days testing. I'll reserve further judgement till I shoot in good light this weekend.

Stills photography will always have a place, just that video will get more popular with mirrorless & it has. Instagram is the best proxy barometer...but it will truly take off when Instagram improves its video compression...currently, it is terrible...once that gets better more people will get on board...

But the Canon R5c...is bizarre...No IBIS in stills & video. No weather sealing due to the fans. Also, it is a pretty bad looking camera...

I’m using CaptureOne and the files seem fine there. I’m happy with what I’m seeing, similar to Z7ii but cleaner noise (my impressions, not testing or direct comparisons). There were other mentions of Adobe not working the best at this time.

Definition of torture: Just got the call, my Z9 has arrived down the street at my LCS, AND I'm way to swamped with meetings for today and likely tomorrow so can't go get it! My local camera store got four in today and I'm not NPS, so fuller shipping has clearly gotten underway.
I'll pick it up for you. Just send me your credit card info.:devilish:
