Of all of the places in the world you've visited, which would you like to return to with a camera?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

In response to the hijacking of the "Security Concerns" thread, lets have a go at a photography related travel thread. Please, no badmouthing of any location, but by all means, let us know of wonderful travel and people experiences you've had. Dwell mainly upon the possible photographic and cultural experiences you'd wish to encounter again. Don't keep your discussions to just one place, but try to keep each thread entry to one location or common theme.

Antartica. To my Australian eyes it is nothing short of phenomenally beautiful. Not too mention the deep peace & quiet when out on the ice away from my fellow travellers. Penguins & seals are amazingly tolerant of human presence not recognizing how destructive we can be. I would go back in a flash.

just one? Hmm, it is a toss up between Denali and Glacier. We were in Alaska with another couple who were not photographers so we couldn't spend as much time on trails as we wanted. At Denali I wasn't really into photography at that point. I'd love to go back now and spend a few weeks hiking there with my camera gear in tow.

Vancouver Island - it has beautiful scenery , Beaches , Mountains , Rivers , Eagles , Bears , Cougars ( the 4 legged type ) .. It`s such a fantastic place to be any day of the week and through every season ...

Never been but it's on my list for sure.

The trouble is, all the places I've visited I did have a camera. :giggle:

However, I would love to go back to some and do a retake or just see these places again because they are so lovely. Bruges, Japan, Germany, The UK, France, New Zealand just to name a few, but there are many more. Every place is unique, interesting and beautiful in their own way and I simply love to travel and take photos.

And when you get to Tofino, you feel like you have reached the end of the earth! At least the drive to there felt like it. But it is quite a beautiful place. I suspect that Port Hardy must feel like that and then some.

Misty Fjords NP, Alaska with private float plane charter, land where requested (if feasible, of course) and fair weather. Beautiful area but last time I was there it was on fixed flight itinerary with four on board, only one landing in the Fjords and very wet weather so photos not so good.

I visited Timbuktu in Mali in 1990 - no camera allowed. One of the purest travel experiences ever. That whole trip was surreal. I would have loved to have a small street photography system and capture the sights. My memory is slowly fading but that trip still brings up the strongest of emotions.

Same for me. Lots of areas in AK, actually. South Florida. Texas gulf coast. Midwestern Warbler migration. I could also spend a lot more time in the nearby Sierra Nevada.
Our Warbler migration was pretty fun this year. Due to some unsettled weather and wetter than normal, the migration spread out over a few weeks instead of just several days. Was a good year for warbler sightings.

Following your request for one destination per post, @Whiskeyman, my second "place" I'd love to revisit (two events dealing with the same organization):

First:
My father is a member of an organization called Partners of the Americas (PotA). Each US state is partnered with a Latin American country, Wisconsin is partnered with Nicaragua. PotA sends everything from dental equipment and medical supplies to retired ambulances and firetrucks. Every year they also do an eyeglass mission - people in the US donate old eyeglasses that no longer work for them, the prescription is measured, and they are sent to Nicaragua. PotA then sends US delegates down to fit these glasses to the people in the more rural areas. I went in 2018 with my then high school senior son. Aside from a very different scenery and way of life, it was heart-warming to see the locals - from very young children to very elderly seniors - who'd never had glasses before, get fitted for glasses and to be able to see clearly, some for the first time in their life! The group I went with was 24 volunteers, far more than we needed, so I got to just mill around and take photos of them getting fitted, and the amazing, happy looks on their faces when they could see!

Second:
At Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, PotA was loading two ambulances and various other equipment destined for Managua, Nicaragua. The Air Mobility Command flew in a C-5M Super Galaxy from Travis AFB. For those of you that have never been up close and personal with a C-5M... It. Is. MASSIVE. Largest plane in the US military fleet, even larger than the civilian 747 or A380. I believe the only plane in the world larger was (sadly destroyed in the Ukraine/Russia conflict) the Antonov AN-225. On this day we only loaded the two ambulances, but I believe the cargo bay is large enough to hold school buses side-by-side! My one regret is that I didn't get up in the cockpit right away, and they need to move the ladder to access it up out of the way for loading cargo. Maybe next time!
