AirTags or other tracking devices in bags?

Do any of you use Apple AirTags, Tiles, or some other Bluetooth tracking devices in you camera bags or checked bags when traveling. They probably aren't of much use in gear bags since for most of us those never leave our grasp, but they may be useful for checked luggage. From what I have read the Apple AirTags are allowed under FAA regulations and Apple says they meet all international travel rules.

I bring this up based on a friends experience traveling during the Southwest issues after Christmas. Their flights to St. Louis were cancelled but their luggage made in on time, go figure. They eventually made it to St. Louis on a different airline and were directed to a warehouse near St. Louis to search for their luggage. It took them several hours to locate their luggage in the warehouse.

I am traveling to Nashville soon and I am going to try an AirTag in my luggage to see how it works.

I have Apple Air tags but I hate them. To me they simply add another level of anxiety. re Suitcases....the tag only work when they're in the vicinity of a smartphone....so not tat useful in remote areas. When at busy airports like London Heathrow, mine have been seen moving away from the airport for some 20 minutes as the baggage train looped around to baggage arrivals, which adds to the worry.
Some people love them. I don't.
You can buy apps that will 'see' smart tags nearby. If a thief sees a bag with a smart tag he'll think it's worth stealing!

I use them on my car keys. Tired of my wife asking me if I’ve seen her keys. They give you a little piece of mind. They work well but like Patrick said they have to be within 800 feet of someone with an iphone.

The ones with lithium-ion batteries are not legal in checked baggage under TSA rules. On my last flight with United I could monitor the location of my bags at the departure airport and see they had been put on the plane and when they were removed at a hub with the use of the United Airlines smartphone app.

When I was last in Brazil the in country airline sent my case to the wrong city and have a locater device inside would have been of no use.

i assume you mean the non airtag versions.

“Luggage tracking devices powered by lithium metal cells that have 0.3 grams or less of lithium can be used on checked baggage,” the FAA said in a statement. “Apple AirTags meet this threshold; other luggage tracking devices may not.”

Just started using them in my camera bags as we are continuously moving around due to the move at the moment, but interesting to hear some conflicting views on them.
Don’t understand how you fix them to the actual lens or body though?7

Have them and love them. Regarding this a connection to an international flight. I needed to change to a different airline, but had to retrieve my bag before I did. It was reassuring to see that my bag had remained in the terminal near me.

Use them in all my cars, my dog, my keys, and all my camera bags and hardcases. Use the "Find My" App from the app store which works great at tracking and locating misplaced items (especially keys).

I use Airtags for my camera bag and my luggage. In a couple of weeks time when I will be travelling to Brazil alone, I will be carrying my wife's AirTag so she can track me :D
