Being somewhat tech challenged, how about someone starting a count or poll thread on BCG for people to log their choices to pre-order the Z8?
Mine was the second pre-order at my local Henry's in Mississauga today. I'll be trading in my Z6II in on the new body.

For those who vote "Not interested", feel free to reply below whether it's because you already have a Z9, whether you have no need for such a high-level Nikon, or whether you are invested in one of the other camera brands.

I cast my vote. I got my B&H confirmation email at 8:01am Eastern Time. I'm still grinning. To answer David, I have a D850 and Z7II. I can't justify 3 cameras, my brain will start to hurt if I try and figure out what to do yet. B&H will have one in the store for a live event tomorrow between 10 and 4:00. I'm hoping to get there tomorrow.

Preordered one from B&H at 8:09 am CT. I know I'll be behind a dozens or hundreds of other orders but I don't care. The tax savings of almost $400 using the Payboo card are worth it. Plus, it gives me time to decide if I really want it or not. I have a Z9 already, which I would sell if I go through with the Z8 purchase. I have just never liked the size and form factor of it. It's basically a giant, square brick and it's a royal pain to fit in a camera backpack and to travel with. I really don't need or care about having the vertical grip and would prefer something smaller. Battery life could be an issue but I have several EN-EL15's already from my Z7 and those are easy enough to pack and cheap enough to buy more.

I think the main thing that will determine if sell my Z9 and buy the Z8 will be how much I can sell my relatively lightly used Z9 for. I'd like to come out ahead on the swap given how much more the Z9 cost originally, but I haven't looked at the used market yet to see.

I voted, choosing “I may get one in the future”. It is highly unlikely that I will buy one new. The Z50, Z5, and Z6 II are more in line with my budget. Who knows? I might eventually pick up a used copy in decent shape. It definitely has specs that interest me.

This is a hard one. I was thinking of adding a second camera to my Z9 in the future and my plan was to get a second Z9, but this Z8 might also fit my needs. I do like the built in grip of the Z9 and the bigger battery, but a smaller and lighter body can also be worth considering. But having the same battery and chargers for both cameras would really be a important factor for me I think.

Well I’m in no hurry. As I’m just a hobbyist and buying the new Z 600/4 TC recently took a big chunk out of my savings. But having just one camera with no back up does not feel great, even though I’ve really come to relying on my Z9 😊

I wont not that I don’t like it, i have a Z9 & Z6ii and for me the z9 is perfect i love it, i think the concept of the Z8 is great especially for those that prefere smaller bodies!, if I didn’t have the z6ii i would get one as a 2nd body, I’ll hang on for the Z8ii with newer technology!!

Not interested. My Z6 will need replacing and while I love the Z8 (I’m a geek!) it’s too much for what I need. I hardly ever do fast moving stuff - birds, sports, vehicles, and only the very occasional video.

Me - I placed my pre-order in person in Grays of Westminster as soon as their system let me -- so at about 13:01 London time. This was before their website opened so I am hopeful about receiving it early in their distribution.

I pre-ordered for these reasons:

- smaller and lighter than the Z9. This is the pretty much the main reason. Paired w/ the 400 4.5 and 800 PF, it'll just be easier to maneuver in the field, as well as being able to put together a smaller travel kit, since I can use a lot smaller backpack (Backlight 18L, the Z9 didn't fit all that well).
- no more vertical grip on/off switch.

I know I'm going to take a bath on selling the Z9, that's the part that has me waffling this morning, but I look at it like this: I know I will be happier with the smaller body, and intend to keep it for years to come. The sunk cost of the Z9 was for the last 9 months of rental.

I don't think I'll get the z8. I am more than satisfied with the z9. Ergonomically perfect for me with the handle, although I don't have big hands. she has never let me down. I'm waiting for the 180/200-600 mm. this would be my next investment. I have the d500 as my second camera, but it hasn't been used since I got the z9. I take it with me on photo trips, you never know, but it only weighs the weight of the photo backpack.

I have a D850 and have been waiting to go Mirrorless for something similar. I almost bought the Z9 last year but I have very small hands and worried about struggling with something so large. I am so glad I waited. The Z8 is just what I’m looking for. I placed my order at 8:07 on launch day. I have been giddy with joy ever since.
