Ordered nps a few minutes items after orders were open. Had to order then or wait a day since I had a hernia repair yesterday

Will be a backup for z9 and possible replacement for my wife z6 ii. She says z 9 is too large for her
Good luck with the recovery. Speaking from experience, hernia repairs can be very painful.

I have a Z8 on pre-order to replace my now 4-½ year old Z7 for walk around and to back up my Z9. Unfortunately, however, I'm still waiting for my long back-ordered Z 800mm PF lens and I gather I'm now getting towards the top of the order list for that so I may delay getting the Z8 until I've saved a few $ after getting the lens.

Being somewhat tech challenged, how about someone starting a count or poll thread on BCG for people to log their choices to pre-order the Z8?
Mine was the second pre-order at my local Henry's in Mississauga today. I'll be trading in my Z6II in on the new body.

For those who vote "Not interested", feel free to reply below whether it's because you already have a Z9, whether you have no need for such a high-level Nikon, or whether you are invested in one of the other camera brands.
I entered not interested as I already have the Z9. I have kept my D500 as my second body & 200-500 which I find more than adequate for my needs, but to be honest if I were a pro & could write it off would definitely have ordered one.

I've ordered mine from The Camera Store in Calgary. Almost pulled the trigger on a Z7ii...glad that I waited !

I ordered mine right after watching Steve's video, it's my first mirrorless. I have a D500 and an old D4 for full frame and was waiting until I could afford the Z9, so the Z8 features and price made it happen. Plus I like that it's smaller, since I also do portraits and shoots where I wished the D4 was smaller and lighter.

My basic question is this: i have two great cameras, d850 and z7. Great image quality. At the end of the day can I get sufficiently better IQ to justify the cost of a z8?

It's not (just) about the IQ. Both the D500 and D850 are stellar cameras from an IQ perspective (I still have my D850). It's more about EVF, WYSIWYG, more focus points, histogram in the EVF, higher FPS rate, no blackout/flicker when shooting multiple high speed shots, and probably lots of other reasons that I failed to mention. However, best of all might be gaining access to the excellent S-Line glass!

I am of two minds about the Z8. For most of what I do, the Z9 is all the camera I could hope for. The exception is travel as it is very large. I still intend to use it for travel and try it out. Perhaps I just need to adapt. If I find it is too large then I am interested in the Z8. I also have a Z7 II that I have used for travel and it works just fine, no issues but that is about all I use it for since I got the Z9. The only reason I have the Z7 II is that it was part of a good deal from my local camera shop. A customer had traded in the F/2.8 Z trio of lenses and a Z7 II. While it wasn't free, this camera was what I used until a Z9 showed up. I hate to get rid of a perfectly serviceable camera.

Hi Rassie, I am about to preorder mine at my local Photo Gosselin in Quebec city; knowing that most of the time it's very difficult there to get what you order in an acceptable time frame, I was wondering if it was not preferable to preorder mine at Nikon Canada; may be you get a better experience with Henry's; let me know please; thank you!
Every time I make an order at Gosselin Montreal, I get it so Quick. Mine suppose to arrive the first day when Nikon start delivering which will be around the 25 th of May.

I ordered my Z 8 to go with my Z 9 on May 10th around 8 am from B&H. I was subsequently verbally advised that B&H expected to ship my Z 8 to me on May 25th. This was a surprise since I expected a 3-6 month wait. I am still waiting for the Z 600mm lens I ordered from B&H on November 2, 2022. I plan to sell my two D850s and Nikon DSLR lenses.

That depends. IQ is not any better from the standpoint of what the sensors are capable of producing. But focus is more accurate. The first time I shot the Z9 with 500mm PF I was really surprised at how much sharper the images were than with the same lens on the D850. And yes the D850/500PF was fine tuned.

... not to mention much improved AF and more AF modes, subject detection, Starlight Mode, faster processors, etc. In fact, Thom stated that the focus peaking was faster/more responsive on the Z8 and Z9 as compared with the Z6/Z7 models due to the faster processing power. I'm guessing that that would extrapolate to the D500 and D850 as well.

Completed my order via the laggy Nikon website on launch day and received a confirmation e-mail by 5:16 AM PST. I had previously sold my D500; D850; & various lenses, in preparation for the purchase. The D500 was my birding camera, the D850 was more landscape/general use. I feel the Z8 will cover the functionality of both rather well...

I've watched many of Matt's YouTube videos and gained a lot of product information from them. However, I regard this video as classic click bait. I have no idea from his dialog what he was trying to prove with his obviously flawed approach to testing buffer, etc. that he subsequently had to correct in the comments below the video. Sad, but I'll consequently view his future product video's with a large dose of skepticism.

this latest misleading video is being cited in at least 2 threads about the Z8.

Watched one of this guy's videos once, never again.....just after the D850 launch, claiming its AF was too slow compared to the D5.... Clickbait. He's a weird character that recalls movies about some sleazy crime syndicate....

There are far more reliable sources, including RicciTalks and Thom Hogan's pages and Steve's continuing testing & writing
