Any Canadians received their Nikon 800mm PF?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I've resigned myself to not receiving my Nikon 800 pf until the new year, but hope springs eternal and I'm wondering if -- despite my camera store guy's intel that they have not fulfilled several pre orders on the lens and he doubts any have shipped in Canada, anywhere -- if any Canadian has their hands on the lens?

On a related note, what are you lucky owners of the 800 using as a replacement arca swiss foot for this lens?

Cheers!

I'm in Metro Vancouver and, as far as I know, the largest local retailer has only seen one 800mm (and it was probably for a NPS customer). I have paid a 25% deposit and don't expect to see it until the fall. I did get the store to agree that if the lens doesn't show up by Dec 1, I can get my deposit back. I hope the retailer is still in business because the supply chain issues must be much harder on them than their patient customers.

I'm using the retailer with shops in the major cities and as you I paid a deposit, but I negotiated a less than 10% deposit :) Ditto on the cancellation if it turns out they're going to have my $ for an unforeseen length of time -- I'd started that conversation with my Z9 order :) Good point on retailers -- the industry's habit of pre announcing products and then 'launching' without product must simply freeze most existing product sales at the retail level for goods already on the shelves. I met a couple of guys shooting last month and both were 'waiting' for their new ordered Canon cameras too....

Not Canadian, but my two cents: I preordered from Precision Camera in Austin in March, prior to the actual announcement. I was told I was first on the list but it actually turned out I was apparently fifth (maybe NPS people were put ahead of me, or perhaps friends of the store personnel). So far they have received one (1) lens. I paid a $700 deposit. This is one of those things where hey, I can easily live without another long lens indefinitely; I am not "suffering." But it does make one wonder what is going on. How can people get all excited about other Nikon new product announcements (e.g., the 400mm f4.5), let alone products that have not even been announced (e.g., the 200-600mm) when Nikon clearly is having all kinds of issues getting already-announced products manufactured and shipped?

I always feel obligated to semi-apologize for these kinds of rants, given the horrific state of the nation and the world in so many ways, and that my own life is fairly comfortable, save for my still languishing in the lingering aftermath of having Covid, which I caught from my "nice" in-laws at a destination wedding in Mendocino a few weeks ago. Hey, at least I am alive and able to be grumpy at my laptop on a Saturday morning.

I'm with you. While the functional problem is certainly supply chain and resource (re chips) shortages, the end result at the consumer level is of the marketing driven brand wars -- I mean seriously, "look what's coming soon" announcements, months before 'launch' and yet more months after that before shipping? As a marketer I suppose I get that as it has people pause re jumping brands perhaps, but in the new world reality (Canon ain't shipping new products either, eg) a prime rule of selling is being wildly broken -- don't build demand for something you don't have; and not just for the lost revenue opportunity, but because it pisses customers off. And hey, I'm good with grumpy LOL I'm just a grumpy old man and nobody listens to me even tho I give them my money. LOL

Any updates from my fellow Canucks? Still waiting for my 800mm PF.
When I cancelled my order a week ago my camera store guy said Nikon unofficially told him none had yet shipped in Canada but for the few in ambassador/select NPS members' hands.

Just asked about my order of the 800Pf lens and by chance the salesperson had just been at a meeting of Nikon Canada reps. They are fully aware of the frustration of us waiting for the delivery of their orders. It's all supply line issues that we all are living with now and the time consuming nature of building a Pf lens. I have a adaptor for my Z9 so using my old lens is no problem. That said with my 500mm Pf lens and the Z9 it's amazing and I'm going to be a happy camper once the 800Pf shows up. It will and all of this will be water under the bridge. Nikon said they are working hard to fill our orders so I'll hang in there.

My store was supposed to receive one unit a month ago (which would put me 1st on the list). That never materialized & there's not much information flow from Nikon Canada about timelines of future deliveries (everyone is kept in the dark).

Maybe Nikon put the brakes on 800PF production if they see greater profit margin with the [4,6]00mm TC models. Although, how they hope to keep up with the increasing demands of new products will be interesting.

I think if I'd known it would take this long with no end in sight, I would have opted for the 500PF (which I may still do).

I went with 400 4.5 (+TC1.4) that I planned to do either way to go 100% Z mount. 800 will be welcomed when it finally arrives but the current combo is no slouch.

Any USA/Canada (non-NPS) NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S orders been fulfilled since November? If so, please note when you ordered and where. Thanks!

FWIW when I asked my Canadian dealer about 800pf situation he expressed some frustration saying they've received exactly one (1) copy since it was announced and has heard virtually nothing about availability since. He's sitting on a waiting list that is scores long. He noted that it appears most copies seem to be heading to the USA or at least anywhere but Canada -- kind of like new Toyotas as anyone who has ordered one in Canada knows. Bottom line advice was to just forget about getting one anytime soon.
