Help with new R5 please

Very happy with the early arrival of my new Canon R5 today.
However I’m new to mirrorless I have fully charged the battery and installed also a card and lens via adapter, switched on and nothing seems to work except a constant red Light next to the delete button .
I feel like I’m missing something obvious any thoughts , thanks Robin.

It's been a while since I used a Canon camera, but isn't that light the card write light?

I think the card you have in the camera is corrupted...

P.S: If changing/removing the card doesn't work, I would try the camera with a native lens or without a lens at all... It should at least start and allow you to navigate the menus.

Hi StefanSC, I have tried another SD card formatted in my 7D11 still just a constant lit access lamp.
I have also now have removed both card and lens with still the same result whether switched on or off. There is a capital P showing constantly in the top screen also

You could check out this troubleshooting guide. If no help Canon support is pretty good, you can talk to a person pretty quickly. One basic thing would be to make sure the little slider on the card is not in locked position and you use the r5 menu to format it rather than relying on the formatting from another camera. Also make sure the card is a compatible type and it is inserted properly. Your manual says:

CFexpress cards
* Type-B compatible
SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards
UHS-II and UHS-I cards supported.

So you can't even access any of the menus? because reformatting that card in camera would be my first action.
If you can't even get into the menus then a call to Canon seems your best course of action.

Did you also remove the adapter and just placed a body cap on the camera?

I'd basically remove all the variables and see if the basic camera with nothing on it at least boots up and gives you menu access. If not, I'd try a hard power on reset or call Canon as suggested above.

Hi all, I have tried every combination I can think of with sadly the same result.
I have contacted the vendors who asked me to carry out the same suggestions as you folks. They have agreed to send me a new unit so I’ Look forward to that.
It is amazing how much you guys and gals have come to my rescue,I kinda feel humbled and very appreciative, thanks!

Looking forward to seeing some pics and hearing your review when the new unit arrives.

Let us know how it turns out, that's a camera I'd like to own someday.

Jeffnles1, bleirer, I will let you know how I get on, but a little ways off that at the moment.
I have always used a crop sensor body DSLR so full frame and so many pixels seems a little daunting to me, thanks again .

Hi all just a quick update. My new R5 has arrived. Unnervingly I installed the new recharged battery.
I t fired up straight away......YES !
I’be spent a fair bit of time setting the camera up and have dual BBAF Manual with auto ISO also it’s set on the 1.6 crop mode after watching several you tube vids.
As yet my editor does not recognise the new files so wil have to download the Canon version at some stage, but for now it’s set for JPEGs
There seems to be a lot to learn , especially pressing buttons and rotating dials that don’t quite fall to hand on the small body even though I don’t have large hands.
There are still a few things to get sorted but it’s early days.
I’ve yet to take some pics so looking forward to some brighter warmer days and some good subjects to upload anything that can be conscrewed as reasonable . Cheerz!

I'm curious why you chose to default on the crop mode? My first reaction was why pay for a 45 megapixel camera and throw away 28 megapixels, when you can still crop a full frame in post if needed. But are you thinking it is going to have a faster frame rate or other reasons?

Glad you got the problem fixed.

Hello bleirer, I agree , you are right and I do intend to use all those pixels at some stage. However I ’m in need of a bit of room on the computer and I will need to move stuff to make space for those files . My cards at the moment are not the latest I will probably settle on CRaw eventually as these are reported to be very good as a compromise but I will see.
As I have used crop sensor cameras since the 20D I feel I need to ease myself in gently and see how things go . I have a sneaky feeling those 48 million pixels will become addictive . Cheerz and thanks

If you have Canon crop lenses the camera will default to the crop mode automatically. I looked at the regular raw and the craw side by side on my RP and couldn't see any difference. But since storage is so cheap I stuck with regular raw.

Good shooting!
