My first outing, coming to understand mirrorless, still lots to learn.

Looks to me like you've got it figured out!!! Very nice images. :)(y)(y)
Thanks Icarus, wish I had, still struggle with settings and it will take a while to become an extension of my shooting, don't know that it will ever be as fast to work with and change settings in manual, as the D500 & D850 are. Waiting for the D8 or D9, which I expect will more DSLR-esque in such matters.

These are fantastic images Indrajeet....👌👌👌You got it all figured out I guess on your new Z6II. Keep them coming......Congrats on your new purchase....👍
Thanks Yezdi, please read my response to Icarus' comment. I must admit that I have bought the Z6 II more with the intention of shooting video, 24 mps just doesn't do it for my type of bird photography. Thanks again!

Very nice series. What AF Area mode were you using for these flight shots and overall what are your impressions of the Z6 II for this kind of action shooting?

Hello DR! It was set to Focus Mode AF-C. It was my first time out with the camera, I had spent a couple of days earlier, pottering about on my deck trying out various settings combinations. It took a couple of hours to find some degree of comfort with it, the feel is very different to a DSLR. I was beginning to become quite proficient with it for shooting birds on the wing by the time had to leave, about 4 hours. I have actually bought it to shoot video, for me, it lacks the Mega Pixels for cropping bird stills being an FX at 24 mps.

In the Large or Small Wide AF Area Mode?

That's great info from someone starting new with the camera. Very nice to see someone getting out fresh with the camera and getting great action shots in short order. Nicely done!

This is a screenshot of the settings used for the Black Headed Ibis image. All relevant data. Hope it helps.

Any suggestions to changes I need to make will be appreciated.
Nice images, Indrajeet. You're already equal to your usual excellent images with the new Z6ii.

You used Dynamic AF-C. My understanding, and I stand under correction, is that the dynamic focus mode may grab and focus on the closest subject if there's more than just the main subject under the 9 or more focus points. This could cause you to lose a shot. The focus modes on the Z6ii that are closer to the Group AF on the DSLR's are the AF-C Large modes (Af-C Large Small, or AF-C Large Wide). I've used these modes with good success on flying birds.

This image made with my Z6ii a few days ago. AF-C Large Small if I remember correctly.

Thanks Rassie, those are certainly helpful tips, will try them out the next outing. Yes, your shots are very impressive and I hope I can get to that level soon. The difference with my shooting with the Z6 II is in the keeper rate, which is a less than 20% of the shots against almost 80+ % with the D500. Thank once again, I will keep you posted on the learnings.

Congrats Indrajeet for your Z 6ii.I am curious to know whether you will br buying Z 7ii since you have mentioned that z 6ii has less resolution for cropping

Thanks Venkatesh! No, I plan to continue using my D500 and D850 for my birds and action photography. I plan to wait for the Z8 or Z9 and hope one of them will fill my requirements with mirror less, where I find happiness with my DSLRs and some.
