TOKYO - Nikon Corporation (Nikon) is pleased to announce the development of the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S super-telephoto prime lens for full-frame (Nikon FX-format) mirrorless cameras for which the Nikon Z mount has been adopted.

The NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, the first NIKKOR Z super-telephoto prime lens, belongs to the S-Line of NIKKOR Z lenses, which pursues the ultimate in optical performance. The NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S realizes the rendering of realistic images by achieving beautiful bokeh and high resolution. It will feature a built-in 1.4x teleconverter and a new coating that delivers the highest anti-reflection performance in NIKKOR history. Providing superb operability in a design that is ideal also for video recording, the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S will support the imaging expression of professional photographers.

Nikon will continue to pursue a new dimension in optical performance while meeting users' needs, contributing to the development of imaging culture, with the hope of expanding possibilities for imaging expression.

I've always lusted after a 400 2.8 for shooting mammals but it's just not long enough for birds and I don't like shooting with TCs. I'm on board with this one. Though it probably means no new cars for me any time soon.

Man I like that lens - would love to know what it'll weigh.

Yah Steve, I have just returned from a later afternoon walk carrying gripped D850 on my 400 f2.8E, and it makes its presence felt ;-) Hopefully, this Z update will set a precedent for Nikon to drop the weight of its new super telephotos

Everyone's favorite Nikon shooter ;) has the 400S on loan from Nikon for some testing.
Tells me the full announcement should happen as rumored by end of this month.

I'm really interested in this lens and can't wait to know the length and weight of it.

I guess he has connections. I'm still waiting for my non NPS Z9 and I'd be interested in this lens. Interesting that his initial reaction was that it's light, that's music to my ears. thanks for posting
