As Hatch said in the other thread…got mine last week and took a few shots out back at the pond…but the first real outing was last week to the Venice Rookery and wanted to post a few. All handheld with my D7500. This is much more comfortable on my Black Rapid strap than the Tamron G2 ever was and it will spend a lot of time on the 7500…the only bad thing is that then wanting to have a second body for other stuff it might push me into the Z7II more quickly.

Seriously impressed with the weight and IQ. In really good light at medium zoom lengths my Tamron is almost as good but this is about pretty early in the morning.

Green Heron about 15 feet away.

Black Crowned Night Heron about 90 feet away on the edge of the island for those of you familiar with the Rookery.

Thanks...both shots would have been harder with the heavier Tamron since it’s not really hand holdable...and while I have both mono and tripods handheld is quicker to get a shot and more easily allowed switching between single point and group AF as they moved around.

Hi Neil.

Fine looking photos. I remember how impressed I was when I first got my 500PF (actually, I still am).

The Venice Rookery is one of my all time favorite places to shoot.

I did the same transition back in November and have not touched the Tamron since... I agree that the G2 is surprisingly sharp and the 500pf only has a marginal advantage but as you pointed out, the weight and ease of use makes all the difference.
how was the crowd at the rookery? I am thinking about going over the weekend.

It is pretty nice...but overall there is greater variety at Corkscrew I think...and the drive is about the same to both from North Fort Myers.

We were there on Thursday arrived about 0710 and there were a dozen or so there...maybe 3 dozen by the time we left at 0930 or so. Very few people were masked but we distanced ourselves from everybody who decided to plop down right next to us. Will definitely be worse on the weekend...but if you’re still working then the weekend it is. I will likely end up selling my G2...wife won’t use it due to weight and I think it will stay at home for me.
