The factory is to build the mythical 200-600mm.....about the time my Z800 arrives.![]()
I think I have only used my 600 once since I got my 800 some time ago and that was in the backyard. Still not sure about selling the 600. It was my dream lens and hard to let go at a distressed price.I just received notification from Samy's here in LA that my 800 is on its way after ordering on April 9, 2022 (non-NPS). There must have been a large batch shipped to Nikon USA recently as I've read quite a few others receiving theirs in the last few days. I'm really excited to get out with it and that I will have it for my summer road trips.
I do have a question for those who have this lens and also have an f-mount 600mm. After having received the 800mm PF did you keep or sell your 600? If you kept it, do you find that you will use it that often? For me, my 500mm PF gets way more use than my 600 FL because because it is easier to travel with on airlines and if I need to stray from the vehicles very far.
Have you considered having them hold the lens to you return?Well, glory hallelujah and high five to everyone, I got a call from Precision Camera in Austin yesterday saying that my 800mm PF lens had arrived and was ready to ship. This was just about eleven months to the day after I contacted them asking them to preorder it for me. The only fly in the ointment is of my own making: I am leaving for Patagonia Saturday (Road Scholar trip with my wife, I will be taking only a smallish camera rig), so I want to be sure that the lens has arrived safely prior to our departure. This meant that I needed to pay extra (a surprisingly large amount!) for two-day air shipping from Texas. A hundred here, a hundred there, pretty soon we're talking real money, but at this point I am not going to fret over it. The irony (not sure it fits the definition, actually) is that I am not taking Nikon gear on my South America trip, but OM Systems/Olympus.
Yes, but two weeks is a long time for the lens to sit in limbo somewhere on their premises. I would rather have the "bird in hand" and have the transaction completed. Besides, I will have the lens for a day and a half before we depart for Patagonia and I will be able to play with itHave you considered having them hold the lens to you return?

I seriously doubt they will be caught up by then. With so many orders being fulfilled now, I wonder if the lens will be on the shelves of some retailers come June or July.
Same here. The 800Z and the 100-400Z are my go-to lenses. My 600 F4 and my 400 F2.8 are rarely used these days . May liquidate in the future.I think I have only used my 600 once since I got my 800 some time ago and that was in the backyard. Still not sure about selling the 600. I hope that means US deliveries as well!FYI, I was told by my camera store guy (at a national Canadian retailer) that Nikon has told them the 800s are about to arrive; how many was not mentionedSurely it represents the first general delivery of the lens in Canada. I originally had money down on that lens (paid in June of 2022!) I switched my order and I was told this info as optimism that the 600 I ordered might not be far behind. An optimism I do not share LOL
They stopped taking orders 2-3 weeks ago, saying they werenāt receiving any info regarding timing of lens availability. My order from over 11 months ago still shows ābackorderedā.Donāt know how long B&H has been saying THIS but: ā Temporarily Out of Stockā, not back ordered.
Same here @ cchuck. Just seemed like interesting wording to me. Not āback orderedā & not āunavailable to orderā.They stopped taking orders 2-3 weeks ago, saying they werenāt receiving any info regarding timing of lens availability. My order from over 11 months ago still shows ābackorderedā.
If you click the "Request Assistance" link on the product page, there is a better explanation.Same here @ cchuck. Just seemed like interesting wording to me. Not āback orderedā & not āunavailable to orderā.
