A good look at the R3

It all comes down to your stealth and approach technique - I suck at it so I need lots of MPx to crop into the animals I keep scaring away :ROFLMAO: but you are correct, I see fabulous wildlife shots at 24MP (from others).
I think i'd better hire one first and see how good or bad i am at the stealth part :) .....Mostly i shoot at close range so not an issue......but i admit i do crop heavily at times....Here is an image that i had to crop very heavily...i'm not sure if it would be big enough for a large print. I also enclose the full frame image ...On a 24mp camera it would have been even
smaller.

smaller.

OK, Disclaimer, I scrolled past a bunch of posts when I saw the title and did some spot reading of the posts.....I need a second digital camera, and presently own the Canon 5D Mark IV. Was thinking the perfect next body would be the upcoming R3 "mirrorless", but the MP value pales in comparison to my current camera....and thinking I'm in need before Canon has come to the table....wondering if the R5 might be better, or just wait. Or discard mirrorless and buy another 5D Mark IV. I should add, I don't give a rip about video, I'm into wildlife and landscape and macro.

If you have an option to try an R5, you should. There are a lot of advantages to mirrorless.

Or, you can buy a big lens to fill the frame. If you’re a Pro shooting sports on the sideline that usually works. If you’re a wildlife shooter and it still isn’t enough, then you may consider extenders, for your lenses and your budget.

The R has the same sensor as your 5div, which is a great camera, so whatever the R replacement will be, that might be my next camera, I'm hoping for around 30 mpx and less than $2500.

I agree....I will wait for reviews, but i don't think 24mp would be too much of an issue. Many leading wildlife photographers use the 1DX and thats 24mp i think. Only time will tell as i've only ever had higher MP cameras, the D850 and R5 and i find cropping on those cameras useful, but i think speed and AF wins... for action photography at least.
The biggest reason for more MP is the vilify to crop in a bit…the alternative with only 24 is that you then need longer glass to prevent need to crop (or a crop sensor body) and that means more weight. It’s true that generally a 36-45 MP body has a little more noise/worse high ISO ability…but since both the 6II and 7II are better than my D7500 that wasn’t a real consideration for me.
