Anybody still waiting on the Nikon 800mm PF?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Hi!
I have been thinking about getting this lens for a year but have not put myself on any list. Last week i put myself up on Nikon Europe list.

To my surprise i saw today that local dealers in Sweden had it in stock.

A bigger surprise was that a reputable seller had it in stock and with a discount of about 400 us dollar.

I called them to check that it was not like a demo product or something like that. No they had three newly arrived.

I thought that i would have to wait months...

So now its on its way and i are super excited!

Awesome - That's it - I'm moving to Sweden 🤪

Does touch a nerve though for those of us waiting a year or more.

While I've not actually ordered it, I was hoping to order from B&H, but that's not an option. I'd hoped to save close to $400 in taxes. Funny thing, I went to Nikon. They had the "Add to Cart" option, but when I tried to do that numerous times, my cart was always empty. No unavailable message or anything. Yet, Nikon keeps putting out smaller, non telephoto Z lenses, it's like they don't care to produce a lens that has such a high demand. I'm wondering about that business practice.

I had put myself on the notification list for B & C Camera (Las Vegas). It was from them that I bought my 500pf a few years ago. Meanwhile, I got my lens (finally) from Precision Camera in Austin about a month and a half ago.

I just got the notification that the lens is "back in stock" at B & C Camera, bandccamera.com . Someone who is still waiting should jump on this.

I read somewhere. that the PF element in the lens requires both a special grinding machine and a long annealing process and that there is either just 1 or a limited number of machines that do that…if true it's the PF element that's the long pole in building them.

I feel very fortunate. I'm in the US. I pre-ordered the 800 PF on March 13 of this year and was told they might have one in 1-3 months. Well, the lens was received at the camera store today. Hope to have it in my hands by this weekend. I've found from past experience when ordering hot items like the D850, 500 PF, and the 100-400 that it's worth avoiding the well-known national stores and ordering from a Nikon dealer in a smallish town with a short or nonexistent waiting list. In this case, there was no waiting list, and the store is in a town of less than 50,000 population.

B&C is where I got my 800PF from, as well as my 400 4.5. Now that you all know about it, going to have to find a new obscure Nikon dealer

Very weird, I have never dealt with B&C before but got an email today from them about the 800mm lens (which I already got from someone else). So B&C must be buying a list of photographers emails and emailing them? Or? (and no longer an obscure dealer)

I didn't want to tease you, I was just so surprised and happy. Hope you all get hold of a copy soon too...
No worries. I didn't take it as such. I'm happy for every recipient and know that one day my ship will come in.

I just received shipping notice from Adorama on mine today. Ordered on 4/6/22
That's great. Nikon should be sending out swag to those who celebrate their one year anniversary on the wait list.

Today marks my one year anniversary since ordering this lens. I am still waiting of course. Just wondering if I was in good company.
Today is exactly 54 weeks since I placed orders (4/6/2022) . This morning I received an email notification from Adorama that my credit card had been charged. :p I also placed an order with B & H and my local camera store (Mike's in Colorado). So....yours may be on the way soon!

Available today in most of the UK dealers, doesn't seem very popular here.
Can you share some links? I went to Grays of Westminster and the lens isn't even listed.

Like many others, I'm still waiting for Godot. I understand that some (US) stores want you to buy the lens as a condition of being on pre-order. With money earning interest again and no end in sight for getting this lens, making a full deposit is probably unwise.

Wex show it in stock. Here is the link https://www.wexphotovideo.com/nikon-z-800mm-f6-3-s-lens-3042989/

It's available alright. Can you or anyone show another link? I guess this might be good news for those of us still waiting and perhaps bad news for Nikon in that maybe demand isn't so great in the UK but then maybe demand there matched Nikon's forecasts.

Amazon has five available used at about $7k. I suppose when that premium goes away, we'll know that supply is close to matching demand.

Apart from Wex, the following UK retailers show it in stock.
