Anybody still waiting on the Nikon 800mm PF?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Mine arrived today. I was a little shocked that Adorama just slapped a shipping label on the Nikon lens box itself. No other protection at all, not to mention it has "Nikon" and "Nikkor" plastered all over it. But it arrived safely and it was love at first sight! Going to give it a work out tomorrow.
Glad you got it, but can’t believe how they shipped it!

Yes, My lens will be here tomorrow though I have lost some enthusiasm for it. Hopefully I will gain it back once I begin to use it.
Thought you might need this for inspiration. :) A quote from a Brad Hill field test of the lens (link below)

"As to a next-to-final word about the Z 800 PF I'm going to say something that's almost uncharacteristic of me. I'm not fully sure why, but one of the things I noticed about the Z 800mm PF was just how much fun it was to shoot with. When I was testing it I woke up each morning thinking "Oh boy...I get to play with the 800 some more today!" Really. And I can honestly say when my time allotment with it was up I really did NOT want to send it back!

My final word: My own Z 800mm PF is now on order.

Cheers...

Brad"

Today is exactly 54 weeks since I placed orders (4/6/2022) . This morning I received an email notification from Adorama that my credit card had been charged. :p I also placed an order with B & H and my local camera store (Mike's in Colorado). So....yours may be on the way soon!
UPDATE: Mine arrived today. I literally chased the UPS driver down the road as I got home after he had left. That old "signature required" thing. Waiting for this zoom meeting I am on to end so I can go try it....:)

UPDATE - I got a call today and tomorrow I will have my second 800 PF - just prior to the one year anniversary! Mine were numbers 1 and 2 for this local dealer.
Just curious ... two? Probably not the most considerate post given the vast number of individuals who are, and will continue to wait much longer to get their first. Thanks for the update!

Haha! Nice. Mine arrived this afternoon, but I had to leave town this morning. Will be waiting for me at UPS.
Nice. Monday will (eventually) arrive. It's snowing here, so still haven't had a chance to really try it out. A wild turkey wandered by, but was gone by the time I got bundled up and my snow boots on to try and get a shot.

While I've not actually ordered it, I was hoping to order from B&H, but that's not an option. I'd hoped to save close to $400 in taxes. Funny thing, I went to Nikon. They had the "Add to Cart" option, but when I tried to do that numerous times, my cart was always empty. No unavailable message or anything. Yet, Nikon keeps putting out smaller, non telephoto Z lenses, it's like they don't care to produce a lens that has such a high demand. I'm wondering about that business practice.
So I had observed that issue with the Nikon site that I couldn’t even load it into my cart. That evidently has changed. I was able to order it from Nikon yesterday. It is noted to be on back order, so I’m sure it’ll be awhile. But this might indicate an increase in inventory. Just hoping.

I try not to. Would have been nice to include that information in your post. Low production and stock for this lens is a "hot-button" topic.

I agree that it is a "hot issue" but did not know that I had to explain my purchases. My photo store says it receives lots of orders and then folks back out so it requests a deposit. Because we were serious real buyers, I paid $13,000 for two lenses in April of 2022 to make certain that we would receive them and not get bumped on the list - although not knowing that it would be a year or that demand would be intense.
Folks criticize Nikon for slow delivery but part of the problem is that Nikon does not know true demand due to those who place orders at multiple stores without even a deposit to prove real intent. Then those placing unsecured orders, take the first one to arrive and cancel their other orders. This creates artificial demand and leaves Nikon without knowing what the real numbers of demand are. In this case based on what I have read, it takes a long time to cure one or more elements in the 800PF which slows the process but how does Nikon know true demand when folks place multiple orders and cancel - does Nikon take the number and divide by two, three or four? Sure some folks have canceled due to delayed delivery timing and opted for other lenses but there are a lot with multiple orders.

I believe now that I read your response that placing unsecured orders at different outlets in order to get the first one and cancel the rest is not really of much benefit. From reading other's post, I am seeing orders being filled pretty much around the same time. The only exception seems to be the neighborhood outlet which requires a deposit. They seem to fill the orders more quickly. Your point then about effect on perceived demand is valid.
