Wow! Some of you have waaay better back yards then we do. No bears, deer, bobcats, foxes etc. We did have some Great Horned Owls nest in the neighborhood this year. Early one morning this guy sat on our fence. Not much light, really high ISO (12800 I believe). I think this is one of the two fledglings but not sure.

I'm on the urban fringe down under surrounded by Eucalypts. When they flower the parrots come in. Here a Rainbow Lorikeet visits for a bath. This guy eats whole flowers for the protein in the pollen and the sugar in the nectar.

The Purple Finch and Oak Titmouse I saw for the first time a few years ago when I was sitting on the deck in my cousins backyard in Auburn, CA. He has moved back to Orange county now that he is retired and his wife is a self proclaimed "beach girl". I never have gotten to see a Yellow-billed Magpie.

Cooper's Hawk. Note the graduated tailfeather lengths and the fierce look. A Sharp-shinned Hawk would look 'cute' and the tail feathers would be the same length.

We are blessed with various wildlife in our yard and always have the camera on standby. A funny one I capture not long ago was this black bear checking out a personal weather station we have out in our yard. I am sure he thought it was a bird feeder. LOL

I frequently like to refer to them as Shoopers ... ID is frequently a challenge ... Dark cap on the top of the head ... larger feet and shins ... point to Cooper's Hawk

A Grey Butcherbird - small to medium, carnivore, hangs up some of his carcasses like this one hence butcherbird.
The partners carol to each other in a minor key, from high in the gum tops. Their call travels and is hard to use as a guide to location.

Red Bellied Wood Pecker in our backyard and a Green Heron with algae covered legs from pond near our home and . Both with my new Nikon 500 PF 5.6 lens (Wood Pecker also with TC-14E III ) on my D850.
