I was out last night & managed to get this image of a Barn Owl.
We had just had a light covering of snow here in the south of England which helped brighten the hill in the background which you can see in between the trees in the background which not only helped with getting the image but also gives it a mood.
The sun had set completely so the light was very poor hence the noise, but I hope you like it anyway.
Thanks & as always feedback would be welcome.

I had a play & was wondering which looked better as I'm going to get it printed.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Very nice capture, the light and the tones... awesome! I would personally crop it at almost a 16:9 ratio to still show the cool tree while drawing more attention to the owl.. as it is leaving the scene. Either way...it's going to look cool printed.

Nice work.

Hi Hatch
Firstly appreciate the feedback.
The only problem is it was taken in really bad light so to freeze the owl meant using a high ISO & if I take it in anymore I've found it accentuates the noise & faults if that makes sense.
The owl starts to look a bit messy as does the snow in between the trees.

This is the original before the crop.

Very nice "film noir' appearance. I scrolled down to block the presence of the ground in the image. That gave me the feeling of the owl being more suspended in the air. I guess is because eliminates a reference point. Fantastic lighting you got. Beautiful.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush... I had someone from the USFWS band the mom and 4 owlets in a nest box in my shop building; mom is in my hand. Of course, not a beautiful photo like yours :)
