Birds in Flight -- Share your BIF Images

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Here are five BIF's from my archive. Even going back to my film days.

Here is a few from July. Not much going on just a stroll down to the river with D500, 500mm PF and poor lighting.
Bent the knob on the shadows slider to bring these out.

Here is a Gull that earned his photograph by being the only bird out there and circling down low near me a few times on July 18th.

I caught another Kite a couple of nights ago flying by my home. The clouds were perfect, lighting was not. Does not keep me from trying. I'm going to give DXO a try to see if it fixes some of the noice. But if said tool works wonders I'll repost.

It may be cheaper just not get so excited and pay attention to settings.

Besides the bird in flight repost. I'm also showing processing straight out of camera on first one and then trying out the DXO Pro Raw processor. I've used the Topaz Denoise and for some images it seems the DXO does a better job. It is a bit cumbersome to use though as opposed to just within Lightroom editing in Topaz Denoise. I could not quite match the brightness of the first image. First one was in Lightroom and the second one (DXO) was then processed in Photoshop.

Seeing all the fantastic posts on the Hummers thread I figured another popular area for wildlife photos is Birds in Flight. Anyone interested in sharing BIF photos?

I'll kick it off with this Great Egret captured this morning down by the Snake River. It was well past sunrise when I came across this guy fishing along the bank of a small side channel. The sun was getting pretty high in the sky but we've got a lot of smoke from Western forest fires which diffuses the light a bit (can't even see the Tetons from Jackson right now) so I thought I'd give it a go. I sure wish he'd flown towards me but I really liked the darker mountainside across the river as a background.

So what are folks capturing for Birds in Flight?

A crow going home for the evening. I'm finding that taking images like this and others I've done with sunset cloud coloring are becoming appealing to me. I'm also using the DXOPureRaw software as the captures are usually on the very high ISO end of the spectrum and lots of digital noise. Some to these images and others I've posted are way after 8:00PM so it's quite dark.
