Since this is a brand-new forum, there's bound to be a few glitches. Could be something major not working, could just be some text that's too hard to read. If you happen to run across anything, post it here and I'll take a look. Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve! Thanks for setting this up. I wanted to let you know I updated my profile info, but when I try to enter my website and "save", I get an error that says "Enter URL", even though I entered a valid URL (www.kevinlohman.com). I cleared that field and I can save my other profile info, but without the website. Also, for social media, I see you can enter Facebook info, but no Instagram info. Is that something you can add? I post regularly to Instagram (www.instagram.com/kevinlohmanphotography), but less frequently to Facebook. Thanks again!

Hi Kevin!

Try using http:// instead of www. I think that should do it.

Also, I'l have to see what I can do with instagram. I searched for a way to do it with this forum software, but I came up dry initially. I'll dig deeper and see.

Thanks, Steve. I added http:// to the beginning of the URL and that seemed to work. And thanks for looking into Instagram. :)

Hi Steve.
Thanks a lot for this corner. That's the Steve's piece that was missing. :)
I couldn't find bugs but it is a bit slow to load up on my browser (MS Edge).
Don't worry too much, I've plenty of time. ;)

Steve,
Thanks for starting this forum. I have been rather hoping, for some years, that you would find the time to start a forum. I am a fan of Back Country Gallery, even though I am no longer a Nikon user. I reread your Secrets to Stunning... as part of my prep for overseas photo trips and whenever I think I'm getting a bit sloppy.
BTW, are there any guidelines on file size and resolution for submissions?

Yeah, it was getting hit really hard with new registrations for a bit there (still is, but it's better now). It's on a dedicated server too - should be faster once the initial surge of registrations is done :)

Thanks!
Ideal forum sizes are 1200px wide for horizontal, and 800 for vertical. I have some info here (posting threads):

There's also a Lightroom preset I made that will output the proper size for you (if you use Lightroom of course).

Hi Steve, glad to see you develop this forum; I expect it to be quite interesting and informative. One question about viewing threads, when the picture opens in the thread, it does not fit on one computer screen, I have to scroll down to see complete shot in segments. Is there a setting to change this, other than clicking on the picture and opening it?

That's a good question, I'm thinking you may have to just click to see the entire image. I played with smaller browser sizes though and on my computer it seemed like the photo was fitting, even when I made the browser really small. I tired Safari and Chrome.

I am using Microsoft Edge that is native on my Lenovo; I may try another browser and see how it compares. Not an issue to click the image but thought I may just be missing a setting somewhere.

Thanks for the follow-up!!

Good job on this forum and thanks for initiating it. I've noticed a couple of things (Windows 10, Chrome browser):
1. Navigation is quirky. E.G. in the top menu bar sometimes "Forums" button has a dropdown list, sometimes not, depending on what page is currently displayed. Regardless, if you click on the Forums button itself, you can get back to the Main Forums list. I would suggest adding an item to the Forums dropdown list for "Main Forums" because if you do click the dropdown arrow when it is visible, you then don't see an item for Main Forums. The Breadcrumbs menu seems quirky but I haven't figured out what is happening to try and explain it. It seems to not always "back you out" to where you think it will. I'll understand if you don't understand.
2. Many forums have a simple back button (not the browser back arrow) so when you get tunneled into a thread, you can back out easily. Something to consider.
3. When I joined today it seemed that "Watch" defaulted to everything. I was getting an email every time anyone posted in a thread I had posted in even though I did not turn on any Watches. I saw your basics vid, read everything I could find, finally found a way to turn Watch off everywhere. It was so buried, I can't figure out how to get back to it. I may be the only one affected by this, or maybe an info post about this somewhere obvious would be helpful to others.
Bottom line: I know these comments are somewhat vague but I was lost in the Nav much of the time and any notes about specifics were in vain. So, rather than try and identify what I've reported, maybe just keep an eye out for strange Nav happenings and I'll report again if I can nail it down.

You can turn off email to watched threads and stop watching threads under forums/watched and then use the dropdown menu on the rhs. I did this but now the manage watched threads drop down menu no longer appears, so I can no longer access it to manage watched threads,.

There did not appear to be an option under the drop down menu to start watching threads again, that I could see, before I disabled watching threads.

Just checked again and the manage watched threads drop down menu is still there but there is no option to start watching threads again or to turn email notification back on again.

When you select the options that are there it seems to only gives options to disable or stop and not restart.

OK, I think I have it figured out...(I purchased and modified the forum software, but didn't program it so I'm still learning too :) ).

The drop box you refer to applies to the currently watched threads, it's not a permanent setting. So, when you disable e-mail notifications for example, it only does it for the currently watched threads. New threads are controlled under your preferences. I think to resume e-mail notifications, you have to go back to the thread and "watch" it again (or turn watch on and off). Again, I think...

For the global account setting, you'd head to preferences:

Then here's where the notifications are set:

The global setting for watching / un-watching is under preferences. I think it's a good idea to do a video on that area - I'll get one up. Thanks!!

Steve,

Not a bug report but a suggestion...............didn't know where else to propose this......................I'm probably not the first to suggest this and certainly you've thought of it already, but I think it would be good to have a couple different individual "presentation" forums for birds and mammals rather than a single wildlife forum. My two cents...................

I may do it down the road. Right now, the membership is too small. If you break a forum up into too many sections too early, none of them get enough traffic. So, for now, I'm being cautious.
