Can you change the order of focus mode cycling on the Sony A1?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I have focus mode custom settings tied to the C1 button but don’t like the order it cycles through. Can I change the order? If so, how?

I don't believe you can do this....................best you can do is eliminate some of the modes you may not be using so you have less to cycle through.

That was my fear, thanks. Just seems odd to me that zone wouldn’t come before wide for example.

That's what I was trying to say above. It goes something like S, M, L, W, Z (depending what you have enabled). I would have expected S, M, L, Z, W - each one getting a bit larger of the focus zone.

Yeah, no way to change the order. I limit mine to W, Z, S and Expand. I then have my AF-ON button do Tracking-ON when held down. That gives me a short 4 mode list to cycle through but 8 AF modes actually available. I use the C1 to toggle through the 4 modes (without having to bring up the list and scroll through it) and now have muscle memory for how many taps to go between any two modes. I know that Z to W is 3 taps. Expand to Zone, 2 taps....etc.

It would be nice to switch the order, but you can't at this time. However, in practice it's really fast and once you get used to the order, you can get to the AF area you need almost instantly. In addition, getting your buttons as Geoff describes above helps - it gives you a quick two-for-one with each AF area. Here's how I have my AF settings configured:

Thanks for sharing. I agree that you get used to it. I guess it’s my logical side coming out - lol. I did purchase your A1 setup guide and have configured my camera accordingly. What an awesome guide!!! Saved me a ton of time.
