Can you couple the back button focus with exposure mode?

I hear some folks try this and don't like it or it takes them days to get the hang of it. Took me about 10 minutes.. Simply love this option.
I have the AF-ON button set to AF-area mode + AF-ON using group- area AF, Mainly for BIF's
Plus
I have the sub selector set to focus point selection, AF-area mode+AF-ON + single-point AF, Mainly for birds on a stick or birds on a rock etc.
Question;
Is there a way to assign An exposure mode to each of these as I would like something Center Weighted metering mode for bird on a stick and a matrix metering mode for BIF's?

Not that I'm aware of but I've accomplished similar things by assigning the Fn1 button to Spot Metering (you could obviously chose something else like center weighted). I'm most likely to use spot metering while also using single point AF so if I want that combo I press both the Fn1 and PV (which I have set to Single Point AF) and hold them while I release the shutter. It takes a bit of finger dexterity, something like playing a fretted instrument but it works.

My standard settings are single point AF and spot metering and AF-C in manual mode which do me 90% of the time and no juggling necessary. I have group AF set on the Pv button and that's about it.

Sadly, there's no way to do it. Putting spot metering on one of the function buttons as DRwyoming mentions is the best bet.

Now, if you have a D5 or D6, you can use recall shooting to sort of accomplish it. If you use spot / center weighted metering most of the time for static subjects, you could use one fo those as your "portrait" mode, and also have the camera drop shutter speed as well (although with any other adjustments you want at the time).
