Chinese spy balloon shot down

Great shot. As a new guy I can assure this is going to get hashed and re-hashed for a while. I'd suggest calling Getty asap. You could just have a 400TC there!

Wanted to answer a couple questions. I used 3D because thats what I had been using prior to seeing the balloon I was photographing birds in the back yard. As far as sending to the news, I did but didn't hear from anyone yet. I probably waited too long. I'm just happy I got something decent and not too concered about making any money, of course I wouldn't turn it down!

Thanks for all the nice comments!

He's a buddy of mine and lives here! Saw this, he nailed that video!

Nice catch ! But unfortunately I personally think this whole post should be deleted as it’s in the best interest of everyone - politically speaking it may cause a problem to this great forum - I don’t know how but it could anything’s possible.

The fact this hasn't gone off the rails and become political is testament to how good this group is. A member shot a great pic that's historical and that's the discussion. I'm sure Steve and the moderators are watching and I'm glad. This is a great group!

Thanks and agree they are doing a great job! All I wanted to do is show the photo! 🤷‍♂️

I look to the sky on all my outings usually for birds. Bet this was exciting when you looked thru the viewfinder. Nice capture!
Thanks it was kinda fun to see what I could do. It was 60000 feet up so that's almost 12 miles and a few miles east of me. I should have ran inside and grabbed the TC2.0 but whatever, was kinda cool to see.

Great team,

As to the photo, Its shows the reach alright, an opportune moment recorded, really well done mate.

Nikon Roomers as well as other forums was quick to capitalize on promoting their web space using the Z9 and 400 4.5 and 800mm lens etc as the tabloid headlines LOL,
the 400 4.5 with Tc ? showing the video which was a shaky video.

Some quick thinking to harness the clicks and gain ranking, a sensational 15 minutes of fame opportunity on Instagram LOL.

Its certainly a sensationalized subject matter, i mean these weather balloons belonging to many different countries and have been getting shot down for many decades all over the world more so for air travel safety .............yet the media adds the word Spy and it sells add space LOL

Isn't Google earth the digital version of weather balloons or to read the headlines of your news paper your reading while your laying by the pool LOL.

As to the photo, a great capture moment, well done.

That said, video is by far trending much more and is more appealing to watch over stills, according to views on the internet, could this be why Nikon's focus has been on building quality video especially in something like the Z9 which is critical to have in the future.

I think the looming Z9 update model hardware wise needs next level in camera sensor VR to further capitalize on the longer reach lenses with video, the zoom lens versions need camera controlled in lens zoom features, as well as more camera body video control features, plus phase in things on the backlog wish list LOL.

The pending 200-600 being a Zoom needs really good VR or IS to compliment trending video performance in demand, Tamron excels in lens IS VR, Interesting, look at the reviews of the DSLR 70-200 Nikon, Tamron, Sigma lenses, you can see how good the Tamron VR is compared to Nikon as far as stability goes, chalk and cheese, I don't know if things have changed.

Isn't it true The longer narrower the physical lens the more challenging it is for video stability and tracking, the shorter and wider the better ??

Zoom lenses i feel will zoom in and out by a control on the camera body, not by turning the the barrel anymore, hence do the the built in Tcs have a play in this ?

All this from watching a still shot and video of a weather balloon being shot down LOL,

I wonder what the next couple of years will bring, excited, yes.

I have to much time on my hands, sorry, surfs up and gee the water is amazingly warm and crystal clear, see ya

Only an opinion.
