Thanks, George. Loons are on my bucket list! I think this is a common loon in winter coloring. I found this on the internet:I think a different breed, this is a a Common Loon but we don't see them all the time so not sure about mating colors etc.
Thank you!!Thanks, George. Loons are on my bucket list! I think this is a common loon in winter coloring. I found this on the internet:
Where to Find Loons: On a North Woods lake in summer, loons stick out conspicuously as large, tuxedoed birds swimming about in the middle of the lake. They can be very vocal and easy to locate, as the yodeling of one loon will often elicit a chorus response from other loons in the area. In winter, loons adopt a much quieter profile along coastal waters, wearing drab, gray plumage. They typically stay close to shore, though, so a scan out to sea with your binoculars will often reveal loons hidden among the waves.
Thank you that's so nice of you! I have to update the website one day sheesh! Most everything is just on Facebook these days!I really enjoyed my visit to your website, George! I especially liked #7, 23 and 25 in the British Columbia gallery!

Thanks very much!Nice George
Thanks! Yes it was a softshell, I have other images with the claws but the bird facing away so used this one!Nice shot, George. I had no idea they rummaged around on the bottom. You reckon that's a softshell crab? The legs look rather limp.
