Crocodilefish or Tentacled Flatfish. It is in the same order as scorpionfish and stonefish but not poisonous. They are well camouflaged but more easily visible when shining a bright light on them. This specimen was 16-18 inches/41-46 cm as compared to a max. size of 19 in/50 cm.
Photographed in the Red Sea near Jeddah Saudi Arabia, depth 30-33 ft/9-10m.
Nikon1 J3, 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. WP-N2 housing, Sola 1200 lumen photo dive lights for illumination.
Photographing them shows the challenges of undewater lighting where the white balance changes every few inches of water column you are shooting through. First the reds go, then oranges, yellows, etc. Since I could only fully light part of the shot, you will see the edges shifting to green the further you get to the edge of the frame. I know there are ways to adjust for such, but I do not yet have that skill in LrC/PS.
