Was shooting today with 200-500 mounted on D7200. Shooting seemed normal then started having random shutter delay and sometimes refusal to fire. Acted like buffer was full type of delay but at times when that should not have been an issue. Turned camera off and back on, removed battery and reinserted, removed and remounted lens to no avail. Returned home, took two pictures of a lamp shade with no delay, waited for 10 seconds and shutter would not fire. Switched 200-500 to my D850 and no issues. Mounted 24-70 on D7200 and it seemed better but not acting completely normal. Moved 200-500 back to D7200 and still same issues. Removed primary card from slot 1 and moved card from slot 2 to slot 1. Seemed to work normal, reinstalled original card and problem returned.

Can this card be "going bad"? I download and reformat at the end of each month. I may have just answered my own question about the problem but would like other opinions.

If this is the problem, I hope others may read this and benefit from it.

Thanks,
Greg

Just checking the basics. Are you using AF-S or AF-C? Is the shutter mode set to Focus or Release?
Rassie, just double checked and it had been changed to AF-S. Not sure when or how, but that may have been the problem. I was hoping for something simple! It seems to be back to normal with the same card I was originally using. Still not sure why it was acting differently between the two cards because I know that setting had not changed when swapping the cards around.

Regardless, thank you very much!

What is your shutter release set to—focus or release (Custom setting A1 and A2)?
A1 is set to release, A2 is set to focus. I discovered last night that I had advertently switched from AF-C to AF-S when switching from either D-9 or single point to the other. Sometimes I will go to the wrong command dial when making that adjustment. Thanks for the reply!!
