Delkin Power 2TB Card on Sale Through EOD April First

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Now, the B&H Photo website is listing the Delkin Power 2TB CFE Type B Memory Card as on sale through the end of the day on April First.

That's a bit too much storage on one card for my tastes, but it might work for some of us.
I was looking for a bigger card for an upcoming trip. Had been using Delkin Black 512 GB (have two) and been happy with them but looks like they may have discontinued these? Can't imagine a cheaper price per GB, hope it will work out since I went ahead and bought one of these HUGE cards (yes I realize this is slower than the Delkin black, but still sufficient for most uses?).

IIRC the delkin black 512gb cards were "gen 1", replaced by the delkin black 650gb "gen 2" cards. the gen2 cards are faster.

I did a series of 20 fps bursts of up to 50 images per burst with no issues with the 2TB card. Write speed spec is 1540 MB/s and it definitely works well with the Z9 for stills. I recorded 9GB of video with no problems either.

I paid $550 for the first one and with it now selling until March 31 at $499 at B&H I ordered a second one. Shooting 4K 60p N-raw I can get 2 hours of video on each card.

That is good to know, Calson. Have you experienced any heat issues with the 2TB card? Have you used it in a hot environment?

Be wary, the price at B&H has increased to $557.00 US, although it's still advertised as $199.00 off of the standard price. I've not seen that at B&H before.

Guess they sold more than they expected? It isn't that big an increase percentage wise though it does seem a bit "slimy". Glad I got my order in before this increase though still not sure I wanted the 2TB card (sales have a way of pushing you to get something).

Do you have both? And found that the "gen 2" card is faster? I bought my gen 2 card when they listed it as 512gb (see below) and it actually was 650 gb. When I compared the speed with my gen 1 512gb card it was the same speed (took 80 frames before slowing down).

I paid $499.99 for the Delkin 2TB card on March 29th. The buyer saw the sales rates and bumped the price by 10%. Still a relatively good deal for this capacity CFexpress card that works well with the Z9.

I agree though since they said the sale price of $499 was good till April 1, a bit "underhanded"? Not sure what they would say if one called and asked for the sales price. I had debated waiting til I got more info on the card but went ahead and bought it at the $499 price.

yah, i'll benchmark them both when i get my cfe-b pci-adapter

from memory, yah, they perform differently, but i haven't used the 512 card seriously lately.

The Power series is not recommended by Delkin for Z9 fwiw.

It could be that they had two wholesale shipments, the latter of which their wholesale price went up. Then again, what isn't increasing in price these days?

The Power is one of the best value CFex cards with top tier speed and low operating temps. Only bested by its Black series sibling. If you are shooting photos on a Z9 then the Power is the better buy (unless you find a crazy sale like this past week on the Black card). Only for video would one be better buying the Black over Power as the Black can sustain write at higher speed for high resolution video.

Just curious, have you tried to shoot 20fps RAW with this card? If so, how many shots does it take before slowing down?

I've been shooting HE* 20FPS but I haven't shot Lossless Compressed RAW as I don't see the point. I use the 128GB cards so don't know how they compare to the 2TB size.
If I remember I'll do a quick test tomorrow to see how long till buffer fills at 20FPS Lossless RAW.

In Alik's tests he had the Delkin Power and Delkin Black cards tied for the same speed in camera: https://alikgriffin.com/fastest-memory-cards-nikon-z9/
The only cards that are slightly faster than the Delkin cards are the Angelbird Pro XT and the Lexar Diamond cards.

Thanks Arbitrage! I can also check when I get my card. I should switch to HE*, keep meaning to do it.

Unless things have changed recently I find if i want to shoot 20 fps in full raw on the Z9, i must have a Cobalt Pro Grade or genuinely specked direct equivalent ie: Delkin Black etc.
the advice came from Hogan.

I got my Pro Grade 325 Cobalts before i got the Z9 24th December 2021, i paid through the nose unfortunately.

I believe going forward the prices on CF Express cards are going to drop dramatically, ??..........
A) slow take up and abundance of availability ???,
B) new technology looming ? who knows for certain ???.

Only an opinion

I did a rough test of the Delkin 2TB Power card I bought on sale for $499. I did use the HE* and was able to shoot 20fps for 80 shots and then it slowed to 16 fps and continued to shoot (didn't test for how long it could continue this). So for the HE*, the Delkin CFexpress power cards are as good as the Delkin black card at about 1/4 the price per GB. And have been using it to shoot video. At least for my video settings, haven't had any problems. Just got the card so would be happy to hear more extensive tests by others.
