I've also been using the Sony reader - I've had no problems. I can't comment on performance versus other readers, but it is not noticeably bad. I'm satisfied with it.

I've been using the Sony for both formats without problems for a number of months. Works fine.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. It's in my shopping cart....................

I stopped using the Prograde CFe reader for that reason as well as it seems to keep the heat in the card, ejected cards were so hot I couldn't hold them. The Sandisk reader is better, cards are still hot but holdable and no where near as hot as the Prograde and there are no magnets.
I use the Sony CF-E reader w/ Prograde Cobalt cards. Works well. Not sure if it is the absolute faster system but works fast enough for me. Download from the card is not the rate limiting factor for me so I can afford it is slightly slower than option. Beside the Sony Card Reader is fairly small which is a plus when traveling. Like to take an extra card reader just in case (image the card read fails early on a trip, limiting myself to a handful of card, even for 2 week trip to Africa, no thank you.

SSDs are, in fact immune to magnets and most newer computer (primary) drives are SSD for various reasons. Spinning HDs can be very vulnerable to magnetic forces (commercial drive destruction employs a magnetic degaussing process to erase data). The trick is that the magnetic needs to be in the correct position to impact the spinning platters. Interesting fact that most, if not all, spinning HDs incorporate small, very strong, rare earth magnets to operate the drive’s read/write heads. Again, positioning of theses magnets are the key to their success. As for positioning a magnet on or near your computer or external HDD, do so at your own peril.

Do you have Lexar XQD cards? I'm seeing comments on the internet that the Sony reader does not work with Lexar XQD cards..... THANKS!
I thought I had an old Lexar XQD but I can't find it at the moment to test it. My in use XQDs are Sony. Hopefully someone else has an answer.
