E-Mail Notifications - PLEASE READ!!

Hey everyone!
We're running into some issues with our e-mail notifications. Specifically, some members are marking the notifications as spam and some e-mail providers are, in turn, blacklisting and blocking e-mails from the site. If you are getting too many message, please don't mark them as spam or you'll kill off the site. Instead, adjust your e-mails settings under your account preferences, content options area.

This setting is likely the one that's causing excessive mail:

Automatically watch content you interact with…
and receive email notifications

For more info, see this video:

Thanks!

Steve

Best bet in that case is to mark them as "not spam" or however your provider phrases it. If enough people do it, hopefully we'll get better deliverability.

Doing that every time I receive an email in my spambox (hotmail) so I guess I’ll just keep marking them as “ not spam” and hope this will stop soon.
Thanks for responding.

Really appreciate it :) If everyone does the same, we'll get much better delivery. The problem is, we went from no e-mail to thousands a day instantly - and it looks very "spammy" when you do that.

Back when the forum started I was getting killed with emails. So in preferences I went to the Content section and after selecting the Automatically Watch Content I create , I then want to it’s subheading and removed the checks from the following :
  • and receive email notifications
  • Automatically watch content you interact with
  • and receive email notification
After I removed the checks from those preferences , everything for me works great. Now I only get the most important stuff in emails.

If you have a Mac and use Mail, from an email, go to the Message link and set it as "Add to Contacts." That should do it. Some programs have a preference that says you should allow messages from people in your contacts list - so you would want to do that.

This just started happening in the last few weeks. I always have had BGF as a safe sender, but recently it just goes to junk. I mark it as not junk every time, but it still happens.

The service we use has multiple IP addresses for sending the messages. I wonder if they had an issue with a spammer and it temporarily messed up one or more of their IP addresses. On the other hand, looking at the stats, it seems only 1.3% were what they called "suppressed" so I'm not sure. Let's see what happens in the next week or so. Best bet is to keep marking it as "not junk". If it persists or we have more users with issues, we may have to find another solution.

No problem Steve, I was working on the assumption that if I keep marking as "not junk", it will eventually sort its self out at my end.
1.3% isn't really that bad as long as everyone checks their junk.
