(These are just some general guidelines for this forum, not our complete rules and terms. Those are in addition and can be found here)

This forum is for posting photos that you want some serious feedback about. If you're posting images here, please note that sometimes the feedback may not be what you wanted to hear. Please remember that in this forum, you are opening yourself and your images up to both positive and negative feedback. If you just want to show off your images with no criticism (or at least very little), try the presentation forums instead :)

Also, by posting in a critique section, you are inviting other members to make post-processing adjustments to your image and repost it in your thread for the express purpose of demonstrating possible improvements to it.

If you're giving feedback to a posted image, please remember to keep it polite and stick with constructive criticism. Also, remember that it's not the worst idea to point out both what was done right and and not just what could use improvement. Also, please be specific with any constructive criticism - just saying an image "isn't any good" doesn't help. Be specific as to what could be improved.

In short:

When starting a thread in Critique Corner:
  • Include all relevant technical shooting info (equipment, settings).
  • State the aim of the image and specific areas in which feedback is sought.
  • Be prepared for critical analysis including negative comments.
When responding:
  • Don't be dogmatic about rules (rule of thirds, etc) or how you like to do things.
  • Don't just focus on the negatives. Doing so makes critiques harder to handle.
  • Provide meaningful commentary. If you don't like an image, try to figure out why and how the poster could fix it.
  • Be polite. It takes a lot for someone to put their work out there, so treat them with respect.

As always, our terms and rules apply, these in particular:

You agree to not use the Service to submit or link to any Content which is defamatory, abusive, hateful, threatening, spam or spam-like, likely to offend, contains adult or objectionable content, contains personal information of others, risks copyright infringement, encourages unlawful activity, or otherwise violates any laws. You are entirely responsible for the content of, and any harm resulting from, that Content or your conduct.

You agree to keep conversations civilized and friendly. Name calling, personal attacks, multi-page arguing, and trolling will not be tolerated and your account may be banned or suspended at the sole discretion of the forum moderators and site administrators. This forum is meant as a positive learning and photo sharing resource and actions at run counter to this purpose will not be tolerated.

ABSOLUTELY NO POLITICS OR RELIGION!! Any post with reference to politics or religion will be deleted.

We may remove or modify any Content submitted at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Requests for Content to be removed or modified will be undertaken only at our discretion.

Finally, as a general rule, please be polite in your posts and responses. When in doubt, picture yourself in a room with a couple hundred other photographers - if you wouldn't speak out loud to that group what you're about to post, it's probably best not to post it.
