Before our 4th trip to Africa, I wrote down one photography goal: to experiment with slow shutter speeds to show motion in a wildlife subject. Advice from @Steve was a big help... he is SUCH a great teacher!

I like it! I used to shoot motorsports and would often take photos at slow shutter speeds while panning with the car, so I can appreciate this photo.
Thank you! I've never tried using a slow shutter speed before!

My Post #2 was directed toward the 40+ people who viewed the image, but left no feedback. When a lot of folks view an image and don't respond, I sure wish they would say they hate it and here's why......or at least give me a clue as to their thoughts. I really want the feedback from them because I value their opinions as much as those who like an image...

OK - rant over.........

I love it Karen. The motion blurred feet along with the nearly mono-chromatic scene is like something out of a dream. Really nice!
Thank you so much, Dave. I took a lot of shots and about 3 were pretty good, but this was the best of the bunch. I tried 1/6 second shutter speed and quickly went back to 1/8th! LOL! It was fun!

I hate it, Karen!

;)No not really!! You've done a very good job with the very difficult task of capturing a panning slow-shutter photo of a quadriped. The eye is far sharper than I sometimes get with a fast shutter speed. I would love to be able to call that shot mine.

Thanks! But know that you can always tell me you don't like an image of mine......fine with me. Just tell me WHY............. ;)

Nice job, Karen.
Very nice photos of your neighbor.

Looks great to me!
Thanks for all you do!
Nice, looks like it is walking directly into the sun. It conveys motion very well
The lion was actually walking toward the sunset. Believe it or not, the images were so saturated with the deep orange sunset, that I de-saturated this image a bit!

Thank you, Woody, Dan and Steve!

Wonderful pic Karen! :)

Technically perfect, not at all.
Impressive, absolutely.

You nailed it in a beautiful light and one really get the feeling of motion!

Interesting concept, I like!!
Thank you so much!
Nice photo, haven't been game to try that yet but one day
It takes the right situation.....so be open to it if it comes along! LOL!

Beautiful light? Well....he was walking toward the last light of day. But think about it....1/8th, ISO 2800......it was quite dark! Thanks so much for commenting!
Very nice capture!
Appreciate it!
Great capture Karen!
Looks like you had a super trip to Botswana,
Please share more of your pictures taken on the trip,
Regards,
Gavin
Thank you Gavin!

@Butlerkid Marvelous image, conveys the mystique to me that jungle animals have! I wonder if the technique was tripod or handheld? I realize the answer for 1/8 sec is usually tripod but you did say "Experimenting." Further did you pan the camera slightly during the 1/8 sec b/c the head seems to stay in focus even with the lion's forward motion? With shutter at 1/2 sec, I would guess you would certainly 'pan' with the lion's motion. But with a lion in motion how much time do you really have to experiment? 🤣 2 secs MAYBE?? All the more reason to admire your photo as beautiful and certainly unique. Thanks for sharing and giving us things to think about.
