GSMNP Black Bear in November

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I plan to go to the Smokies the first week in November and hoping to shoot black bear while I was there. Any input on where and when to find them this time of year would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to hike if there are spots worth trying. I will be carrying my telephotos so don't think I can go too far.
Thanks all,
Jeff

I suspect Cades Cove would be the majority suggestion and be there early when they open the gates.

Thank you- that was my thought as well. I was wondering though based on their behavior this time of year, if there was anything particular that would help increase my chances of spotting and photographing them.

In the month of November, bear activity is a little lower. I would recommend Cades Cove as well. You might have some luck on Rich Mtn Road. It’s a one way road that leads out of Cades Cove and comes out near Tuckaleechee Caverns in Townsend. One year I saw a few late in the year on that road and another year none. Try looking around and in the black walnut trees.

I am familiar with that road-Will definitely try it. Also thanks for the advice about the walnut trees.
