How many camera bodies?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Three. I usually carry 2 with me for wildlife. Both are D500s, one with a 500mm and one with a 300mm. Then I have a D7200 for occasional use, mostly with a 70-200 or 17-50, especially when I don't want to bother with taking a long lens off of one of the D500s. :)

Right now I'm at a recent low - just two camera bodies since I've sold all my F-mount DSLR cameras. I have the Z7ii and Z6 - and will be getting a new camera this year probably to replace one of the two.

I do have the Nikon V1, and a couple of old film cameras but I have not shot film in 12 years or more. I have used the V1 in the past year.

The funny thing is with my move to the Z-lenses, I was selling some lenses and quickly sold a 16-35, 24-70, and 70-200, so I found I did not have the lenses to justify carrying the cameras for occasional use.

At this point I own 6 camera bodies...
A Panasonic G9 and a Nikon D500 that are my main cameras.
A Nikon D810 that is partially functional that I use every now and then for macro/landscapes.
A Panasonic GX-7 that I use for street photography with the small m43 primes (no need to take a camera bag with me).
A Panasonic GF-1 that I would get peanuts for if I were to sell so I won't bother.
A Pentax K-7 that I bought for peanuts just to try a Pentax body.

... I think the 600 f/4 is in my near future.
Good for you, if it is. I got a 600mm last year and though I haven't used it that much, and almost have to use it on a tripod, I have learned what an incredible lens it is.

The only regrets I have about it is waiting so long to get it and that I didn't wait and get the 800mm instead. Because if the 600mm is what it is, the 800mm has to be even better, right?

I'm surprised you don't own a Z9, Eric.

I've always only had 1 since I started with film 30 years ago. Never saw the use of having multiple and so never wanted to spend the money on additional ones. I've even cut down on lenses and gotten rid of ones that I rarely use. I've given up on astro due to cloudy nights 95% of the year and so I now have no dedicated astro lens. I don't do macro enough to justify a 1-2k lens but I'd kinda like to get into it more, nothing for now. I don't even do landscapes enough to justify a wide lens any more, I just use my phone a couple times a year. So as of right now I'm at 1 body and 1 lens as I only shoot wildlife.

I was curious on average how many camera bodies do most serious photographers own? I owned only one up until about 12 years ago and have had two ever since. I almost always take two out with me and enjoy doing so. I have considered getting a third mainly because neither of mine do not focus bracketing but keep talking myself out of it lol. I'm sure there are some that own several bodies but I'm curious what the norm is, especially among members on here.
I wish you hadn't asked but.............

Nikon - Z9, Z7II, Zfc, D850, D500, Df, D300, D40x
Leica - Q2
Sony - RX100III, Rx100VII

I'm still trying to find a camera that doesn't take shitty pictures. :)
Actually they all take great pictures, so I must be a shitty photographer.

That’s a lot lol

I've never liked a gripped body or the size of a flagship body. But I'll admit I expected the Z9 in a smaller footprint in 2022. I don't use subject detect that often, and action and wildlife don't represent a high percentage of what I photograph, so functionally I'm still committed to my original plan and will get the updated camera this year. I hope.

I started with FM2 and added a F3 7 years later (now archived and kept for nostalgia). Added a F90x in 1999... With AF! Last roll of Fujichrome was in 2008, when I already had a D60.
I've iterated DSLRs over past decade. D7200,D500, Df.... D780, D5. I also tried a Z7 for a couple of years, it's great for landscape photography.
A D850 became my primary camera 4+ years ago, but it's now the backup, 3rd camera to D6 and Z9

I'm another with too many, mostly kept for nostalgic reasons, but I just hate to let them go.

D3000, birthday present from my wife, which got me properly into ILC photography.
D7200
D750
Z6II, my daily

DJI Mini 3 Pro
DJI Mavic
DJI Osmo 3

Fuji Finepix 1400 - My first digital camera from 23 years ago.
Fuji S5600
Fuji AV150

Minolta X-9 Film

Samsung S21+

Most of the above still get used, including the Minolta and there's probably more hidden away that I've forgotten about.

That’s definitely a lot. How do you like the mini pro drone? I’ve had the mavic pro zoom for a while and have been interested in the mini.

I think the max I ever had at once was 5 during my Canon days and laziness to sell them (5D2, 5D3, 1D4, 1DX, 7D2). Because I often mixed systems I usually had at least 3. I'm now down to just one....the one.....the A1. However, when I start to travel again I will certainly have a 2nd body. Either add A7RV to the A1 or when A1II comes out maybe use A1II and A1 combo....although I probably will want to use funds from selling A1 to buy A1II.

Pair of Z9s for me plus Z7 ii when I want to go light. Or my wife uses the the z7 when she needs reach and crops. Plus for my wife 3. z 6II and a Z 9 which she never uses so I guess it is mine. So between us 7 and I technically own all them

Plus iPhone and several P&H which I never use and a GoPro (seldom used)

Three - a D500 & a Z9 for "regular" use, and my ancient D7200 which I'll set on "auto" to hand off to a friend to use.

When I originally posted (my current four plus 2) I didn't include the five I've given to family members and the 20+ point-and-shoot cameras (Sony, Nikon and Olympus - the Nikons don't last long, the Sonys last forever) I have in homebrewed camera traps.

There are retailers that don't have three Z9's in stock. :)

I've kept every Nikon I've owned back to the first D40 I got back in 2009. Right now, my main cameras are the Z9, D850 and D7500. I have grandchildren who like taking photographs and my granddaughter was very excited when I handed her a D7100 with an 18-200 lens on it (she wanted to use a camera that had a lens you could move in and out.) I figure if I wanted to sell the older stuff I'd get pennies for it and the experience of using a nicer camera is priceless to my grandchildren.

It's good, I like it a lot. Our weather in Scotland has been pretty terrible since I got it, but it performs over and above how I expected. Camera is a good performer in both video and still. Resolution is good without using the 48mp setting and it performs better in strong winds than some reviewers would have you believe.
I was torn between the M3P and Air2S, but the sub 250g weight of the M3P won it over for me with our UK laws.

Yeah from what I’ve researched it looks like a very capable drone.

My question is similar but slightly different. Not how many cameras do you own, but how many do you travel with? I am booked into a private trip to Africa that says I may not have more than 44 lbs of luggage in total. On my last trip I carried 30 lbs of cameras (Z9 with 100-400 and FTZ and D850 with 500p and 24-70mm in a think tank wheeler). I am 5 feet tall and needed to ask for help lifting it into overhead for each of my 3 flights to destination. Since I also have the 800p on back order and will bring it to Africa if it comes in, I am wondering if I can get by with only one camera to save on weight.
