How many lenses do you have?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I’m just curious how many camera lenses most people have. I have 9 and 2-3 of them I hardly ever use. I’ve thought of getting rid of a couple but fear I’ll regret doing so. I would say I have 5 that I shoot with quiet frequently. I have two 24-70 lenses and definitely need to sell one of those. Perhaps this is common among all of us but I was just curious the number of lenses most of us have.

My current count is five: Nikon 200-500 f5.6, 70-200 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 16-35 f4, and a 105 f2.8. I find that they, and my two D850s, cover fairly well most of what I do, although I'm in the market for a 600E f4. I recently sold 2 others, along with a camera body. I like keeping my kit manageable - no sense having lenses that are rarely or never used. 🤓

I agree. I bought a 20mm prime a year ago and have used it 3-4 times. Honestly I prefer my 14-30mm. I did sell my 200mm macro lens a couple weeks back after getting the new z lens.

Probably two or three more than I actually need and one less than I want at any given time :)
I know what u mean. I normally take two bodies with me when I go out for more than an hour or so because I won’t change lenses in the field but I’m OCD with how I take care of things lol.

As of yesterday I personally own none. When I ordered a Sony the better half said she was taking over all my Nikon equipment.
She has a pretty good selection with a few that could go away. 8 as of now. Nikkor 70-300mm DX G ED, Tamron 18-400mm, Sigma 14-24 f/2.8 art, Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 G2, Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 G2,Tamron 150-600mm A011, Nikon 200-500, Nikon 500 PF
In the last year I have given away my micro 4 thirds stuff and my old D3400 with a handful of lens and all my filters to 2 different friends that showed interest in photography.

One thing I will probably break down and buy some day is a decent macro lens, I have rented but never owned a dedicated macro lens

A good macro lens is always good to have and it can serve as a awesome portrait lens as well.

I have 18 it total. Been doing photography for a long, long time. I don't have any one or two preferred genres, I flit about as my fancy takes me and my camera has to be a jack of all trades and the lenses also have to suit. Before Covid I used to shoot models most, sport, interiors for a local builder, the activities at a local narrow gauge railway, portraits, family stuff, events and activities put on by my local council, play with macro, some low light and night photography. What will take my interest next? I have no idea. I'll just take a fancy to try something I don't do much of - wildlife for instance (;)) or landscapes or street photograhy......

Breakdown is:
Nikon
50mm f1.8 x 2 (one used on my Fujis with an adaptor), 85mm f1/8, 300mm f4 D, 80-200 f2.8 ED, 14-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, Sigma 105mm f2.8, 150-600 sport. DX lenses used on my Fujis with an adaptor - 17-55 f2.8 and an 18-70. 1.4x and 1.7x TCs too.
Fuji
10-24 f4, 18-55 f2.8-4, 70-300 f4-5.6, 35mm f2, Samyang 12mm f2, Samyang 85mm f1.9, Zonlai 22mm f1.8. I have a manual adaptor for all of my Nikon lenses to work on the fujis and another one that allows all Nikon lenses with AF motors to AF on the Fujis.

Damn, you guys are making me feel good about just having nine. Maybe I need more lol. I always feel guilty after buying another one but I guess all in all, it’s not too bad.

Just purchased the 300mm f4 PF last week and that rounds off my collection to 13. 12 Nikons and only the odd Sigma 100-400. Of the lot only 2 are DX Glass from my D70s days and for the life of me I don’t know why I still keep them in the Cabinet.

Let me consult my spreadsheet 🤔
7 lenses. I try to sell, trade, or donate any that have been replaced by something newer.
For example, I traded in my 200-500 when I bought the 500 pf, and recently donated 2 older lenses along with my D300 to a local high school photography class/club.

14-24, 16-35, 24-70, 70-200, 200-500 & 600/4 in FF & 18-140 in DX...

I need to sell the 16-35 & 18-140 for sure and should really sell my 200-500 with my D500
The 600f/4 is a lens I’d love to have but the condition of my elbows don’t permit a lens that heavy unfortunately. I love my 500 pf lens and it’s nice and light. Hopefully if they make a z mount 600 it will be lighter.

I have and all of these: 600mmF:4G VR, Sigma 800mmF:5.6 F, 200~500mmF:5.6 G VR, 18mmF:2.8 AFD, 20mmF:2.8D, 300mmF:4AFS, 70~180mm F:3.5-4.5 AFD Micro, SW 80~200MM F:2.8D, 16mmF:3.5 manual focus, 24~120mm F:3.5-4.5 VR, 80~200mmF:2.8 AFD. I just received last year Nikon 1000mmF:11 lens and a old Nikkor 50~300mm F:4.5 manual focus. These two lenses are just toys I like to play with. I use a F5 with split image focus screen with those two lenses. The only non Nikon glass is the 800mm. Believe or not but I use all of them during the year.
