Fantastic photos, everybody. The variety of birds, poses, composition styles is awesome.

Here's another immature Broadtail hummer all puffed up and sitting out a summer rainstorm.

Here is one of the pretty Rufous-tailed Hummingbirds from Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. I had never tried to photograph Hummingbirds until my trip with Steve and Rose in 2018, so any time I actually got the bird in the frame and reasonable sharp was a bonus! They are a challenge. This was taken with a D850 + 500mm PF, 1/1600, f5.6 and 6400 ISO, because it was handheld.

Thanks DR!

Thanks Dave. Next time you visit, make a point to stop by the Henderson "Bird Viewing Preserve". You won't be disappointed. Wifey & encountered several dozen "lifers" in just 2 days there. It was excellent.

Another sample.

Very nice Phil, just wondering if this is handheld and if you usually use 1.4tc with the 500pf. I’ve played with the 500pf and 1.4tc but wasn’t really happy, only played never really gave it a true test. I’m a very poor hand holder at longer focal lengths.

Thank you Clippy.
Yes, these were all handheld, as we were walking thru the preserve. I probably use a TC with the 500PF about 30% of the time - most often on Z Bodies. Both Wifey & I use them on D500's too, but AFFT was really critical on them whereas it's simply not required on the Z Bodies.

Again, thanks! :)
