Is my exposure of the egret OK? Pls comment.

That looks like difficult light. On my screen a couple small areas, for example the area above the eyes, are blown out - there is white with no detail, indicating overexposure of that part where light must have been hitting it just right, yet the legs are very dark where they emerge from the body. If you have the raw file, I'd pull back the whites to see if you can recover the blown area and pull up the blacks to allow some detail to emerge. See if some of your local contrast settings are overdone or if you messed with the curve maybe smooth it out a bit.

It gives a nice mood and that is appealing, but maybe just a few adjustments.

To me it is too dark. I know well how tricky it is to expose for these fellows. Some dodging and burning can help in this situation. I would pull the shadows up, too. Just another opinion from the peanut gallery. :)

Excellent exposure on the top…and a great shot. I personally would have brightened up the underside and wing tops in PP just a bit… but that’s personal preference. The dark background really makes the bird pop though…did you darken that or was that the way the shot came from camera?

Thanks for the feedback. The background was deliberately darken to make the bird pop out as you mentioned.

Thanks, I will rework the raw in the future and try your suggestions.

Thought it might be…and I like it…although I would have brought up some portions of the beret…but it rea depends on what you were going for…and as is it’s still a great shot and PP.
