It's 2021 - Update Your Copyright Data!

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

It's that time of year again where we need to update the copyright information on your cameras. In the video below, I'll show you how to do it and what you should put. I have some extra info with it too for using the little keypad and such, so I'm going to link you to the blog page at the site:

Also, note the video was created a year ago, so it uses 2020 in the example - make sure you use 2021 :) (y)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year too you all and specifically you and your wife Steve. All done, thank you.

Thanks for reminding and explaining @Steve.

Knowing that the regulations in the US and Europe might not be the same and putting something in editable information fields does not provide any protection, it is still good to know to do it the right way :), so I changed it in all my cameras.

However, one thing that struck me in this context was that I realized that there are several places in the image data that the information could go:
  1. EXIF data - category camera - fields photographer and copyright
  2. IPTC-IIM data - category picture credits - fields creator/photographer and copyright
  3. XMP data - category dc - fields creator and rights
I have not yet checked with other raw processors, but DxO PL4 writes the data in the EXIF information only.
Whoever would need the information in IPTC-IIM or XMP data as well - for whatever reason - should just check what his raw processor is doing and whether or not its behaviour is configfurable in this respect.

The category and field names for IPTC-IIM and XMP data I mentioned are just an example (in this case coming from XnViewMP in German setup and then translated). They may show up differently if someone uses an other viewer.
