I like the looks of that.
Still I suspect I'd always be in Photoshop by the time I started masking. And the selection tools there and the ability to refine a selection are without equal. Done right it can also be nondestrucive in Photoshop. The Lightroom is nondestrucive also, but I'm thinking it still will be Photoshop for me.

I'm looking forward to this. Honestly, I don't bother to update LR every-time they offer it, as most of the improvements they've made in the past few iterations have no bearing on my photography and offered no real world benefit to my processing tasks. This coupled with my slow internet at home make LR updates painfully slow.
For this capability I will definitely take the time to download the update.

It's funny, now that I know it's coming, it seems like I could use the new masking features on every shot I'm working on!
I'm thinking I'll use select sky fairly often. This is a big step forward, IMO. Of course, we'll have to see how well implemented it is before we get too excited, but I think this will be a real time saver.
Sky select, subject select and a whole lot more is already a right click away with edit in photoshop.
Sure, so is every tool in Lightroom. The obvious point is that you can save time and disk space if you can do everything you need to on one file in Lightroom.

Of course, I was finally getting the handle of masking in PS, now it seems I won't be needing it as much!
Obviously if it cuts down the number of images I have to edit in PS, it will be a huge help.
This may finally push me to retire LR6 and upgrade. But then there will be the whole learning curve to start using PS. Cause I know I will :(
Photoshop is a whole new world and a bottomless pit of choices. But the basics are pretty accessible with you tube and such. The main thing is getting comfortable working with layers and masks, and a few tricks to make what you do is reversible and nondestructive as they say in photoshop-land. Lightroom is automatically nondestructive but in Photoshop you have to work at it a little.

I think they may have finally reeled me in, too.
I’m currently sitting on LR6 and Photoshop CS6. I’ve used Photoshop since v4, but most of that was graphics rather than photos, so I expect quite a bit of catching up from CS6.
I'm well familiar with the basics of levels etc. Currently using a layer editor and used PSE for years. Just learning the UI for PS will be trying. Particularly since I'm already using another product.
Its similar to pre, easier because it is not crippled.
