Hi there,

First I found Steve's YouTube videos/channel, and today finally joined the forum.
I am here to get your honest feedback, as I want to learn as much as I can from your experience. Thanks in advance!

Gear used: Nikon D7200 and TOKINA MACRO 100 F2.8 D
Camera handheld, and first time using a macro lens. I am trying to learn how to use lightroom 5.7.1 (I will try to learn how to use it first before spending $ with upgrade)

Settings: f/16, 1/200 sec., ISO100 - Image was cropped
Macro Photography - 07-24-2019 - 27.jpg

Excellent. If I was going to crop the original, I'd probably concentrate on the eye and put it more toward the center of the photograph -- the facets on that eye and the tibia of the right foreleg are in focus, the focus falls off on the rest of the bee's anatomy.

I like them both just the way they are. Very nice work!

If anything, I might have framed the uncropped shot for a bit less room behind the bee and a bit more room in front of it (viewer's right side of image) but really I think it works like it is.

Thank you! I got what you mean... will play with that too.

FWIW, a simple 5:4 aspect ratio crop (vs the 3:2 AR straight out of the camera) would probably achieve that and still keep the nice flower where it is holding down the lower right hand corner of the frame. IOW, you don't really have to zoom in with a crop, sometimes you just adjust the aspect ratio to another common photo standard and can shift the composition a bit.

Both great images. Nice work. On image 2 I may try to darken the leaf right over the bee's shoulder. Our eye tends to be drawn to bright objects and the leaf does distract some from the bee which is the subject of the image.

Is it what you mean? I liked it, and didn't crop... only aspect ration change... :)
Thanks a lot!

Hey, I tried to darken the brighter area of the leaf a bit (please see the last image I posted), but my limited knowledge in Lightroom is not helping much... I understood your suggestion, and will follow in the future (first I will have to learn post-processing to do some touching of my images ;))
Thanks a lot!
