One of the more unusual songbirds around here are the Red Crossbills with their unusual looking beaks apparently well suited for cracking open nuts. Prior to last week I'd seen them maybe a handful of times visiting our feeders but suddenly a dozen or more of them will descend during the day and wipe out our feeders in short order. I was happy when these Males and Female took turns hopping to perch on our crabapple tree waiting for some space on the feeders.
