We do not see a lot of mammals on our photo safaris to Latin America. Most mammals in the sub tropics are nocturnal and hence, difficult to see, let alone photograph. This is a Gray-bellied Night Monkey that we photographed in Ecuador last summer. A small troop of these monkeys emerged every night shortly after dark and fed on the local Cecropia trees. They never traveled more than about 100 meters from their home tree. Our guide stated that this colony had been there for decades and likely most members of the troop had never ventured more than those 100 meters from where they were born.
These were photographed with Deb holding a flashlight and I was using a large camera on a tripod. Often shutter speeds were very slow (1/25 second) so most shots were not usable, but occasionally we would get a good one.
