I noticed that Adobe released a bunch of new versions today. The new Lightroom and Lightroom Classic have the masking feature. Photoshop will update version 22 to 22.5.2 and you can also install Photoshop v 23.0. Lightroom Classic v 11.0 will upgrade the catalog so be aware of that.

Sadly they're not released nor announced yet, but could be as soon as Monday or Tuesday. Sounds like someone at Adobe messed up and briefly made them public via the CC app and you got lucky to catch it at the right time.

They've done this a few times over the years, where there's a new point release of LrC but no announcement, changelog or feature list or marketing on adobe.com until a few days later.

So, I'm not sure if I am lucky or unlucky to update this morning. I sat down at my laptop just to check email this morning and I was notified that new Adobe updates were available. I then checked on my desktop machine and they showed updates available there as well. My Adobe Cloud App is pretty confused right now! To bad I am in the process of a kitchen remodel or I could spend the day playing with the Lightroom Classic masking tool. It seemed to find my grandson pretty easily, but I haven't tried it on anything else.

I'm really tempted to get these updates as soon as they are available, but I got burned once in the past by a bug? that impacted my current project. On the other hand I'm not supposed to be editing anyway due to a detached retina surgery. (Using "readers" can be quite inter3esting!) :)

Maybe they don't release all at once??? I don't have access to it on LrC. :(

I don't have access to them anymore either! My Adobe Cloud Application is really confused right now. I do have them all installed and from the little I have used them today they all seem to work fine. I am interested to see when they will be officially released.

I have updated the Adobe products and taken a look at a video of the new LrC masking abilities. This change to LrC is a big one and it brings LrC closer to PS abilities. I've always been a big user of local edits and I'll have to relearn the tools with this change, although they are the same tools. It's worth taking a look at the video information provided by Adobe before you jump in. I do think the new way of using the LrC tools will be a big improvement, just a bit of a re-learning curve. I have not yet jumped in and tried it out.

I had to fuss with Adobe Creative Cloud a bit to finally offer the update. And it is GREAT!
Funny, I think I had very similar issues this AM. Checked my Creative Cloud and it said all apps were up to date but it was showing previous generation of LRC. After a couple of manual prompts for the upgrade, it showed. Just tried a couple of very quick edits with the revised mask tool and I think this is going to be a huge improvement to LRC's functionality, particularly for wildlife shooters wanting to isolate specific creatures in their edits...and the mask inversion just becomes a fabulous addition too.

I've had a few minutes to use the new masking tool and it is incredible (I'm on LrC). The AI picks up a single subject completely and when it does miss something you simply brush it in. Finding out where the tools are now located is probably the hardest part as that has changed a lot. The masks can be named now, like PS, and are stacked. Using one mask to create a second one and then inverting that second mask allows quick and easy edits on subject and background. I've included a screen shot example showing the masks for using the invert mask selection. I could not say the changes are intuitive so watching the two videos provided is the quickest way to get up to date.

Very impressive addition to ACR and by extension to LR. I'm amazed at how well and how quickly the auto subject masking works and the ability to: add to, subtract from or invert the selection is really useful. I suspect I'll be going to PS less and less and reserving it for more complex layer stacks and images that need a lot more help.

Thanks @MartyD for posting info on this update!

Lol, i wanted to install the LR update on my win 10 LTSC 1809 and it told me that my version of windows is too old and i need to update it first before i can??..nice

Interesting, I don't have much experience with the LTSC versions of Windows 10. Does Windows update offer any updates for you?

A good video on how the new selection tools work:

I purchased his "deep dive" class on the new masking layout and it's worth the $40 just to make sure I completely understand it. It would be a really good class for someone new to LR.

I am almost half way through it and I've learned a few things I didn't know!!! (Not all that hard actually!!!).

FYI: Be aware that you might need to delete your old LrC icon and then install your new LrC icon in your Mac dock in order to use it for the new version.

Well, guess Adobe doesn't really care that much about OS compatibility anymore. I'm surely not going to buy a different version of windows just to use Lightroom v.11..really disappointed with Adobe.

I downloaded the updates within the last few days [from my "history" it may have been as early as Thursday]]. They hung up a couple of times, and a reboot of the computer fixed my issue - probably not related to the update itself, as it happened in an early stage of the process. Other than that, it went without a hitch, although I haven't had time to play with any of them beyond opening them to be sure they all worked.

So i managed to install it anyways on W10 LTSC. But i've got a question: Can anyone explain how i can use the luminance mask with the brush as one could do in the previous LR versions? If i add luminance mask to a brush stroke the whole pic gets selected. I can't figure out how to only apply the luminance mask to the brush stroke..any help is greatly appreciated.
