Hung out on the deck today watching the Hummingbirds. Everything is relatively chill until a second younger Male Rufous Hummer shows up. Then the gloves come off.

Nikon Z6ii and 70-300P

Great and really hard to capture images Bill.

We've been getting regular squabbles between the Broadtails and Rufous hummers in the yard but it's hard enough to capture one of them when they go after each other much less both in the frame. Fantastic work!

Thanks Dave. Most of the battles happen within a couple of feet of a feeder. I prefocus on an area and shoot a high F-stop. You wind of with a lot of shots of nothing but occasionally you get lucky and get a keeper.

Bill, You’ve got those Hummers in “flight and fight” dialed in. Awesome set of photos!
Thanks Vern. They're so active right now I avoid wearing red. Lol
Well captured Bill, I see these little guys fighting a good share of the time. What are you shooting with now days?

Thanks Louie. Still shooting a pair of Nikon Z's. For these the Z6ii.

Awesome. I am going to have to try your set up. Yes a lot of nothing at times but when you get something it's worth the deletes. Lol. What lens are you using and if a zoom what focal length? Sorry to be nosy just want to try myself and cut the learning curve. Lol. Thanks for the great shots the last couple of weeks.

Fairly short on the focal length. I was between 135mm and 200mm. F/14 or something that will give you a good DOF. SS between 2500 and 3200 to keep the iso down. The biggie is to prefocus on the most popular area they're in. Wide area large af-c
Lots of patience.

Superb! Hat’s off to the technique and patience of the photographer!

Thank you!
Super photos --your eally nailed those.

Thanks so much!
