New DeNoise AI 3.3.2 having problems with it.

Hi, I have just downloaded the new version of DeNoise AI 3.3.2 and working with raw files. I am having some problems with it and I would like to know how others are finding it. One of the issues is that the images look soft compared to the older version. Also, I notice that the images are darker than the orinal raw file sent. Topaz indicates that the best option before returning to Lightroom is a DNG file, is anyone having problem? I have a MacBook Pro 2016. I am using DeNoise at the moment with the auto settings.

I haven't downloaded the latest as I generally wait, particularly if I'm happy with the current version. Only advice I have for you is to turn off the Auto setting. I used DeNoise for one thing, getting rid of the noise and preserving/enhancing sharpness. Any time I've turned Auto on my reaction has been, "Aw, hell no", and turned it right back off. I'm happy doing the light adjustments on my own, thank you, and I can click Auto in ACR/Lightroom and be happier most times, but I don't even do that.

I don't use denoise with raw files, have had problems before. I only use it with jpeg or tif, usually after editing. Regarding image quality, be sure to compare original and final result (not original and preview). I find the preview sometimes is misleading on my scaled screen (macbook pro 2019).

I have seen a few different issues with Topaz DeNoise AI over the last few releases but they were more related to the preview display then the final output.

Round tripping from Apple's Photos is a bigger hassle than it was before. Especially Nikon RAW files. "Apply" is now "Save" and yes they behave differently.

I am not at all pleased with the update and hope they resolve the issues soon. DeNoise is (or was) a great tool. Kind of wish there was a good way to go backward.

I agree, it is the same in Lightroom. The option to apply settings is no longer there instead the option is save file and then I have to synchronise folders … Do you have any issues with image quality? I have noticed that the details in the image are lost. The noise is gone but the bird looks like a plastic toy.

Working fine on my Windows machine.

I use auto settings, but I only use it for deNoise and a tad of sharpen.

Have you tried to contact Topaz?
I have been in contact with Topaz about the inability to use Denoise as a preset in Lightroom as before. So far it has been a week and they keep sending me the same set of instructions that do not work.
@jeffnles1 , you can find all Topaz product releases here https://community.topazlabs.com/c/releases, scroll down to select.
I have seen this link. The set of instructions that they provide to use Lightroom as an external editor do not work. At least, not with raw files. What I get is the image back in Lightroom but without any adjustments made, essentially is the identical file sent to DeNoise.
thanks. Appreciate the link.
let me know if the instructions work for you. I have not been able to get it working with raw files.

I had the problem after upgrading to DeNoise 3.3.1 on a MacBook Pro, where the Apply button became a Save button.
Here is what worked for me to get back the Apply button:
1. Completely unistall DeNoise
2. In LR Classic, delete the External Editor presets for DeNoise.
3. In Library->Lightroom->External Editor presets folder, remove any .lrtemplate files for Denoise, if any remain.
4. Close LR Classic.
5. Install DeNoise from scratch.
6. Open DeNoise standalone, (close it again, I'm not sure what I did here)
7. Set up the DeNoise External Editor in LR.

I have not tried the raw editing in DeNoise, so I can't comment on that.
I also have not tried the upgrade to 3.3.2, didn't notice it until just now.

I use Apple's Photos App. So far, it does not work with Nikon RAW files. It will send it back as a jpg but prior versions with the "apply" button worked. Not sure what happened. It seems to work with jpg files however.

Apple photo app works with RAW files. Check out this article to see if it helps. https://eshop.macsales.com/blog/74009-raw-files-in-macos-photos/
Thanks Ralph. I was unclear in my comment. That's what I get for trying to type on my phone. I use Apple Photos and yes I have used it with Nikon RAW files for years. It is a round trip from Apple Photos to Topaz DeNoise and back with raw files that I'm having trouble with. I can get the newest version to round trip with JPG files (but have to select the save as JPG to get it to work properly), but going back and forth with RAQ files used to work and with the 3.3.2 version it no longer works. EarlierDeNoise versions had an "apply" button. New versions do not have that button but only a "save" button and it does behave differently.

Sorry about being so unclear in my earlier post. Brain Freeze on my part.

No problem 👍

Hi, Yes, I'm also having problems with the latest version of Topaz 3.3.2. The amended image is sent to the source (or any other destination you wish) and this file/image contains the updated/amended version however this version (the amended DeNoise version) which shows up in the Lightroom gallery of images does not look as if it contains any amends i.e it just looks like the original picture. I have written to Topaz and am awaiting an answer............hope this helps.

I won't be of much help but it works just as before on my M1 MBP with LRC - every time a new update comes through I have to go in the preferences of Denoise AI and tell it to use the M1 processor otherwise it is super slow in "automatic". But that's the only glitch.

Now I agree that the output is very different from the previous version and like others have said, I think the noise reduction is too aggressive and eats up details so I start in Auto and turn it down from there.

It's still an outstanding tool but this was a bit of a step backwards for image quality. Functionality though is the same on my machine.

That is correct. I have asked Topaz if the version 3.3.2 could be used as a preset as the versions before. They said that yes, it can be used as a preset. They send me instructions on how to do this and it did not work. Then, they asked me to delete version 3.3.2 and install version 3.3.3 which they sent on an e-mail. However, and this is important. In order to have version 3.3.3 as a preset in Lightroom (as it was before) I had to unselect/untick the option ‘store presets with this catalog’ in preferences and, of course, I lost all presets in Lightroom like watermarks, editing… So now I have to select/tick the option in Lightroom preferences to ‘store presets with this catalog’ when I want the presets back and unselect/untick the option when I want to use DeNoise as a preset. When I told Topaz about this…their answer was ‘we are working on it’. I hope it makes sense what I am trying to say.

Yes, I agree. The good part is that it is super fast the bad is that, as you say, it is too aggressive in auto. I find I have to pull back the dial almost to nothing. It looks like they have been working on M1 and it does not work well with other systems.

Hi, I was notified by Topaz yesterday that they had fixed this problem and they asked me to install this new version 3.3.3 - this I did. However, yet again it doesn't work like the previous version (I use 3.2). I have emailed Topaz and will await their reply. Just to say I'm using a Mac so not sure how this effects windows users. If anyone needs previous versions here is a link https://community.topazlabs.com/c/releases

I have problems all the time when they update. Now you can view all options on the screen at the same time and the only good one that is in focus is the clear. I do see that there is another update so Ill try. I go through photoshop and cant do a batch that way but i can send my raw file one at a time. When I use the stand alone it dosnt carry over the Raw process so frustrating. Im not to thrilled with topaz I dont like when it smooths over the feathers. Sometimes its good sometimes its not

You can change to a single or dual view in the menu. You don't have to accept the default where it shows all four views. If you select a different view, that will persist and next time you launch it you'll just see the view you're interested in.
