New Features

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I thought I'd put in an announcements forum as a place where I can announce new features for the forum and such.

So, we'll start with this. You may have noticed that I've been doing a few little upgrades over the last few days. Some upgrades are for supporting members only, other upgrades are for everyone.

Everyone

1. There's now a topic search feature above the forum list and at the top of all the forums. Start typing and it will look for threads with your keywords in them.

You can only see EXIF info for this image if you are logged in.

2. There's now a "Thread Starter" banner under the user name of the poster who starts a thread when they respond within that thread. It doesn't seem like much, but it's handy to know at a glance if the original poster is responding to your comment.

You have all the above plus...

A new "bump" feature that allows you to bump one of your threads once a day. I know that sometimes, especially in the presentations forums, a post can fall the the second page pretty quick. If that happens, you can bump your thread back to the top for another go. Please note that this is a bit of a test feature and may be removed if it's abused (although I'm not too worries, seems like a great group here).

Second, you now have a "History" link when the Forums tab is active. This will give you a list of your recently viewed threads. It's handy if you want to refer back to a topic that you recently viewed and can't quite remember which topic it was.

Thanks again everyone!

PS More to come :)

A suggestion.
RE: "Bump" feature. 1- It could be tied to the number of views EG. a post could not be bumped if it has (x) views.
Since the "Bump" feature is designed to get the post in front of eyeballs, once seen by a certain number it could no longer be bumped.
BTW Congratulations on a wonderful site with a bunch of really neat features. 😄

That's kind of what I was looking for originally, but this plug-in was all I could find.

Great improvements. Still hoping for a member map of sorts for perhaps collaborating with others.;)
I actually found a couple, but they use geolocation and it would show every member's location. I'm hesitate to install it due to privacy concerns since there would be no way to opt out. It wouldn't show member's names, but it still would freak people out. I'm still looking for a plug-in that uses the location the member input - that way, it's just using the info they are already freely sharing.

@Steve
Thanks for starting this forum up. I just visited for the first time and subscribed today and love what I am seeing here!

A request:
Would you consider displaying EXIF data below images uploaded by members?

I'm looking for a solution that that. I think I'm going to have to hire someone, there's nothing built into the software.

Thanks, Steve.

Do you know Amin Sabet? He is the admin for two other forums I frequent that have this functionality (Nikon Cafe and mu-43). Perhaps you won't have to reinvent the wheel...

Hi Steve, is there a way where you click on a member and just see all their photos they have posted? Like a member gallery.
Right now you get find all comments (which include photos) or find all threads.

There was a discussion on this someplace else...Sorry can't remember where. The fact they anyone can take a screen shot kinda makes it a moot point if someone wants to get a copy they will.
Thanks Gordon. I am going to upload a 960 pixel long at 72 ppi and see how it looks. Might be an option.

Not that I know of (I'm still learning the software too). I'll check and see if I can find anything.

Hi Steve, one other thing I noticed. Photos that are posted can be downloaded by anyone. Any way off turning off this option?
Thanks
What Gordon said above. Sadly, anyone can take a screen shot, so dialing right-click / downloads is nothing more than a false sense a security. The sad truth is, if someone wants to grab your image, there's very little you can do to stop them. (Happens to me all the time, I just ignore the small sites / FB pages that do it, not worth the effort - I jus think of it as the price for posting stuff online).

Steve - I guess that begs the question what do you use to check for photo's that are yours?
