Anyone else think Nikon will follow the Z9 with a new prosumer level body incorporating some of the Z9 features as they have in the past with DSLR’s?

Yup, I expect they will.

Realistically the margins and total addressable market for flagship cameras is a fraction of what it is for enthusiast cameras. I'd be amazed if they don't follow up the Z9 release with more pro-sumer and consumer cameras leveraging any Z9 successes to sell a lot of cameras to those larger markets.

I personally know few people who would even consider a Z9. Most are perfectly happy with their phone camera. Maybe I need a wider circle of friends (🤣) but this seems to be a very tough consumer market.

Much as the D 850 followed the D5 with its high rez capability and largely similar AF system, you would have to think that a future Z body would emulate that pattern, if for no other reason than to help Nikon sell lots of cameras. However, in this new mirrorless world and with far more advanced sensors, it begs the question whether in the near future there will be lower megapixel "fast" pro-oriented bodies and "slower" higher rez bodies like the D850 or does that MP distinction between bodies fade. It does seem more bodies are leaning toward higher MPs which may be a function of more advanced processors.

There are a lot of different strategies that Nikon can use to deploy Z9 technology. Historically the D3 and D5 technology was well represented in follow up bodies. I'd expect the same thing with the Z9. The question is whether they deploy it next in an FX mid-tier camera in the (like the D850 in the $2500-3500 range) or a DX flagship action camera (like the D500 in the $2000 range). Each version is going to have some features scaled back to achieve the price point. Historically AF speed is fastest on flagship models - and they use a larger battery to provide higher voltage. Flagship cameras also have a faster image processing engine with a faster bus to support extra high frame rates. These differences can mean cutting the cost a great deal when translated to retail price. It's similar to lenses - the incremental 10% in performance is often at 2-3 times the price.

I'd expect to see a Z9 FX or DX counterpart using much of the technology in 4-8 months - probably paired with the planned 200-600 lens. This lens is geared to enthusiast wildlife photographers and is not an S lens, so it needs a camera body for that kind of photography.
