Nikon 600mm F4 E availability

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Personally as an owner of one I hope Nikon never makes another and discontinues it. They need to release the Z mount stuff to stay in the game..... plus it might help the ones in the hands of F mount users retain some value if they plan to make the switch after the Z is released.

I tend to agree. I'll be selling my 600E soon as well as my D6 - I keep moving more and more to mirrorless.

Still, I have a feeling Nikon will keep producing the big primes for the F mount for some time to come.

To the OP - if the one at Allens Camera falls through, get on a list or two (I recommend Roberts Camera) and have them call you when one shows up. The thing is, right now big glass is tough to find with any manufacturer, so sometimes you have to wait and the sooner you're on a list, the better.

Don't forget about me, Steve! 😊

I, too, will be selling a lot of equipment when the Z9/600 S drop. D6, D850, 600 F4 E, plus a bit more depending what / when Nikon releases additional S lenses.

Steve, how about a forum for selling or a link to another "good" forum (Fred Miranda for example) so members can sell reasonably to each other avoid ebay fees or low ball prices from camera stores. Hopefully sellers can get a bit more than camera stores offer and buyers can get reasonable prices for used items.

(I am totally dumb about the mirrorless stuff) So, you can not use your 600mm on the Z 9, or you just don't want to? I see there are adaptors, not for all lenses?

It remains to be seen how seamlessly the Z9 will adapt to the f glass. As it stands now there seems to be a slight degradation of af speed with the current Z cameras.

I used my 600mm f/4 G lens and since picking up the E FL version I use that on my Z6 II all the time. Yes in an end to end focus speed test I can measure that it's slower than on my D5 or D500 but in actual use where I really don't rack focus end to end I don't have any problem with the focusing performance (or any other performance like sharpness or contrast) using the 600mm f mount lenses on even the current lineup of cameras. Gotta believe if anything the Z9 and future Z series cameras will handle F mount lenses even better but IMHO they work fine today.
