Nikon D6 with 500pf lens and 1.4 teleconverter

I think I only used that combo once so far. It's like it is with the D5 - it's "OK". The biggest problem is that only 15 AF points are rated for F/8 and only the center is cross-type. When I did try it, I only used the center. Again, it's just OK - it works, but it's not my first choice. (same applies to any Nikon AF system using an F/8 lens).

I often add a Nikon 1.4x tc to my Nikon 500mm f5.6 pf lens when mounted on my D500. If light is bright or pretty bright, AF does not seem to be impacted that much. (I usually set AF-C d25. ) However, in lower lighting situations, AF is impacted and I find that removing the 1.4x tc is needed.

I agree with Steve. I've used the 1.4x with my 500PF on my D5 once or twice and images are acceptable under good light conditions. I think part of the issue is that you are adding a traditional optical glass teleconverter to a slow diffractive optic lens, and they just don't play nicely with each other. A better solution if you need the distance might be to just crop or if you have a D500, mount the 500PF to it.
