Or so Nikon Rumors claims. Also projects price to be close to $14,000 (USD)

No information about the weight yet.

If Nikon can release, and mass produce, a variety of mirrorless glass, it will help them a lot! The next winner in the camera world may just depend on lens offerings.

Especially if they can offer unique lens such as having a TC in 400 or 600, lighter weight, ...

I'm really tempted here, but it'll probably get worse tomorrow! I'm planning to replace my 600 F/4 with either this or the 600 F/4S. Can't wait to see the announcement - although the price may cause me to hesitate.

If you need length, then go with the 600 F4. If I need only to go to 600 and not further, I am think of sticking w/ my 180-400. w the TC I get to 550, close enough. Already have the 100-400 S zoom so I will want something longer. If Nikon made a 600 PF I would be happy with that. Personally I would rather have a 600 PF vs a 800 PF

$14K is very reasonable, if it has a typical Nikon 400 f2.8 IQ and then maintains the great IQ similar to what they did with the dedicated TC 1.4 in the 180-400 or the TC 1.25 that is matched to the 800 f5.6.

As to the choice between this and the 600 f4 S, the 600 will be at least as sharp to a little better than the current 600 and it might be a good deal sharper. The 600/S will take TC well and as good as the S 2.0x TC is with Z bodies I would have to think about a sharp 1200mm f8 lens I would have in the bag. Small birds and 1200mm!!

Yup, still on the fence. It look great but 90% of my shots are at 600mm or more. There are times I can use a lens like this - it would be great in Africa - but most of the time I think it would be married to TCs. A 600mm with a built-in TC is a no-brainer for me though, although who knows if that will happen?

Looking at the size on the roadmap - it'll be big heavy and expensive like most top end Nikkors...🦘
